I only have one question about modified airboxes and free-flowing K&N style air filters. How long will the engine make increased power from these mods? Lowering the restrictions is great for building power and moving more air, but they also allow more dirt to enter the engine will accelerate wear.

you wont notice any difference with a stock filter vs paper, as there is substantial leaking on the 928 air box under vacuum. stock filter causes about .1"Hg pressure drop across it in a sealed air box. without sealing, both are near .2-.3 . there certainly is more restriction with stock vs paper filters, but the problem with almost all the dyno tests, is that the air box leaks. once the air box leaks vacuum, then the test is meaningless. the meaning of this is that the air is leaking around the air box seal bringing in unfiltered hotter air. thats why i vent and seal the air box. (and use a very lightly oiled KN)

oiled cotton filters trap as much dirt as you would want. however, the leaking air box kind of defeats the goal of real clean filtered air, which 99% of most 928 owners have. ive raced the heck out of a 84 , 170,000miles and when it was apart, no wear found, anywhere!
