Rebuilding a PS rack will set me back approx EUR 450 which is approx $ 600 I guess. How big is the chance of failure or having to do it over again when doing the job yourself? After doing the TB, WP, cylinderhead gaskets, TT, and lots of other jobs, would this perhaps be one job too far?

Now that's a $500 question. As in the thread, I've done my end seals more times than I can count (4 or 5 or 6). At least once because of my fault in installing the seal. The other times because the rack rod is corroded.

I've got the seals and my time is free. I will say I'm damn sick of doing the job.

I'd think a new re-builder has at least a 25% chance of needing to do it over again.

Shipping to The Netherlands will hurt.

The best part about buying a rebuilt rack is the warranty.

Rebuilding your own will cost you very little!! A kit will cost much less than the price you quote.

I installed a 928Intl rebuilt last year after carefully searching the forums for experiences regarding DIY rebuilds. The volume of threads relating leaks shortly after a weekend of work took the motivation out of me, and I bought the rebuilt. I hope this one works out for the best, Heinrich. Please update the thread with your experience over time.
