What mileage for a clutch friction plate?
I know its going to vary widely with different driving styles (and flywheel condition etc) but - what mileage do you get from a friction plate?
My previous car (not a 928) the clutch lasted ten years and over 100K even though I abused it horribly, and did very little highway mileage.
I replaced the friction plate in the 928 nearly 3 years ago and 32K, and I noticed it slipping badly on a recent spirited launch. It doesn't yet slip in high gears going uphill etc.
When I had the clutch apart six months ago there seemed to be plenty of material left.
TIA - and Merry Christmas

If you only replaced the friction disc maybe the pressure plate has is on its way out ?. Just a thought, 32K for a standard hp engine sounds real low.

Luckily I have a spare pressure plate from a much more recent car which I will fit when I replace the friction plate, mine is probably original at nearly 200K.

Pull out the inspection plug, or drop the lower housing and look for signs of a RMS leak .... which may also account for some clutch slip. Oil can also migrate from the 'Vee' , down the backside, and into the bell housing notch where the release lever pivots, maybe worth a look ....

Inspection plug? You have to be joking - I didn't even realise there was supposed to be one, there's just a hole in the bellhousing - LOL.
I will check for oil - thanks Garth

I replaced my dual disk clutch at about 75K miles; the old one was clearly not the original (unless somebody put in a GTS release arm just for fun) so I guess 30K miles as a life is not so far off in my case?

150,000 kilometers and still going on original clutch. About 30% wear left. It slipped a little last year when I took the car out of winter storage but after a couple of hundred kilometers it stopped.
