LS1's just beat them everywhere.

Given the information I gather from my old '85 S and the '00 TA I have now. Also having driven a buddies S4 and both of his GTS'. My TA is a quicker (not sure about faster) car out of them all but maybe the GTS', and the only place one of the GTS' have a chance is from a roll. My car is a Manual though, but even if it wasn't, Auto LS1's typically run 13.5s at over 100mph. Manuals are usually a few tenths faster. I don't have my timeslip handy, but I can assure you that this is the norm, and not an exception to it. My car isn't even a freak.

My car is not a rattletrap. It's a stock TA that is babied like my 928 was. The build quality is not like the Porsche (It IS a Pontiac after all). I think that another issue that was left out of the equation in regards to the way the cars "feel" is weight. Early 5.0 Mustangs do not weigh much at all. I wouldn't be surprised if danglerb's '91 Mustang tips the scales much at more than 3100lbs wet with him in it.

Well I have raced against LS1s with the '93 T/A 6-speed and from a stop they are the same untill you start to reach the top of 3rd. After that its' game over for the LT1 and the LS1 pulls away like nothing. It's one thing that a car feels faster and another to see the numbers. T/As feel fast casue of the soft (compared to a 928) suspesion and when you go full throttle the front end lifts and you sink into the seat. Giving an illusion that the car is faster than a more ballanced 928. In a 928 the front barely lifts at all so it gives a totally different feel than a T/A.

Now speekign of number. Stock LT1s are good for low 14s maybe high 13s. The LS1s are about .5-.8sec faster. Some of the LT/S1 engiens are "factory freaks" and are way mroe powerfull than the norm. Perhaps this is where soem of those 12sec runs are coming from. From my experience there is no difference in 1/4 mile times between a manual or auto trans T/A.

I pulled numerous high 13s and a best of 13.8 with my '85 when it was 100% stock (right down to spare tire and tools). With only a chip set the followig summer it dropped down to 13.5sec. This is just about LS1 theritory.

Imo000, your '85 sounds a ton stronger than my car was. Mine was an auto though so not sure, I know I blew a buddies Mustang out of the water with it once. My car (TA and 928 when I had it) were both stock, so that is what i'm judging off of.

Kevin, I'm going with a single on my TA. My 928 was taken from me just about two years ago when some retard pulled out in front of me when he decided not stop at a stop sign and I had the right of way without a stop sign. Needless to say, it was totaled by the insurance company and I now have my TA in it's place. I have thought about getting another 928 but a 5spd and possibly turbocharging it as well. We'll see what time and money permits, but for now the TA is getting the attention it deserves and it's gonna be one sick monster. I'm shooting for ~700rwhp on a T76GTS most likely.
