928S Cooling Fan

928S Cooling Fan
The Air Pump on my '83 has frozen solid, so the belt is no longer turning the radiator cooling fan. Short of spending $1100+ for a new air pump, any ideas on how to restore cooling? Thanks.....

Ouch.
I think someone said the other day you could pull the guts out of the air pump so the pulley is basically turning freely. You could also look for a belt that just goes around the crank to the fan. Try doing a search on 'air pump delete' or similar stuff. Several people have done it but I'm not sure how or whether that would negatively affect your particular setup.
Check threads over the past few days for 'air pump' too.
One issue with the shorter belt is that there's no way to tighten it, I guess you just loosen the fan bracket, but the belt on and then replace it with the belt on, but I don't know how well this would work.

Or, find a used Euro pulley- got mine for about 50 bux off Ebay.
But their scarce, I'd go the shorter belt route, if a visual inspection of your emissions equip isn't likely to be an issue. a search should yield the right one for the application.

Could you post pictures of this and maybe some more details.
Thanks

or just put in an electric fan. I've got a new summit s blade 2300cfm unit I could send you, I went w/duals and a devek shroud for the stroker, but a single electric is fine for most street driving/stock motors. it's just collecting dust in my garage...

If you go to an electric fan, that means you need a short belt as well, but it should be adjustable with the air pump?
I am looking at a OBDII cat which doesn't require air injection, but I am not sure if I can remove the pump "legally" in Calif yet. I think Calif is about to adjust the rules for pre OBD cars and new cats, but thats just a notion I got from talking to a guy at CARB.

Remove the radiator fan, leave the air pump, and I am wondering if the adjustment for the air pump will still tighten the belt?
