Default 2.5" custom dual exhaust 85/86 32V installed ! Lots of pics.

Well, fortunetly for me www.mufflex-performance.com (manufacturer of the 928 Specialist x-pipe and RMB's) is only 1 hour from my house in Trenton NJ. So after several discussions with Denny (owner & master fabricator) we came up with the following system:
Dual 2.5 inch aluminized mild steel piping in a S4 configuration with two resonators after the X. Heat shielding was installed on the right side of the trans.
The exhaust terminates into a Magnaflow two in two out final rear muffler. Topped off with 3.5 inch stainless slash tips for a no hassle maintenance.
Took 5.5 hours start to finish.
Sounds great. Very exotic type exhaust note although to loud for long trips. So I will have two hi-flow cats re-installed which will also eliminate "the stink" and quiet it down a tad.

So early this morning the "black beast" assumes the position:

That looks fantastic ,
what was the Magnaflow part number for the final muffler?
A sound clip would be nice if possible?

Cheers/Peter

Peter,

I'll get that Magnaflow part # for you. Keep in mind it's loud for daily driving.
I do not have any way to post a sound bite.

Any chance you dynoed the car before you installed the 2.5 inch pipes?
You should dyno the car now to see whether the increased air flow is maxing out your fuel supply. Watch for pinging. (you may miss it with the louder exhaust)

So that was too loud? With all those mufflers? I am trying to plan out what I will do on my 86 to keep it zero-loss, yet still very acceptable for daily driving.

Thanks Rich,
I think that with the high flow cats it will be more reasonable.
I have 928Specialist X-pipe with high flow cats on my 90GT together with stock resonators and stock rear muffler.
It is to quite for my taste, I'm thinking of using the magnaflow at the end to replace the stock muffler to get it right where I want it.
(still do not want it to loud though)

Rich, another option you might want to check out is that Dave Lomas has some shorty straight though resonators he's selling for his cross-over. They fit exactly where the cats do. He posted some pictures of them that got deleted and a price of around $139 for the pair. I think they might provide just enough muffling to quiet it down some more but not rob any power. BTW, both the car and the exhaust look awesome!

OK ...."aluminum piping " I think you mean aluminized mild steel a thin protective coating rather than aluminum ... it helps steel resist corrosion for a while.

Rich,

That's really nice.
Is the muffler an "X" type?
What brand and length of resonators did you use?

Just an hour from my hometown as well. YES.
You California guys don't get to hog all the know-how out there.

RDS- That adds the sound to an awesome looking car. Nice setup.

John K.

The Magnaflow muffler is a true X-core design.
p/n 14386.
Resonators are around 16" in length and are Magnaflow units as well.

Good Luck Rich
