For those who have PM'ed me and especially those who are waiting on me to send you things, Seattle is in a sorry state, most of the city is blacked-out because of a wind storm that killed thousands of power lines. I have had no power for two full days. Shipping companies anywhere near me are closed and all traffic lights are dead. Driving here at night, it looks ghostly to see whole towns blacked out.

 

I think the town is depressed because the 49ers crushed the seahawks on thursday night!

 

Heinrich.........we had similar issues this time last year after high winds and heavy wet snow brought down power lines. We have a generator in the barn so we can reverse feed power into the house and with of our heating by propane or wood we're really quite self sufficient.

Is there anything you neeed that would help? Stay warm.

Terrible, you have all my sympathy. Similar thing happened to me in UK after their only hurricane; must have been 15/20 years ago.

I thought the heating would be OK as it used gas as fuel but it is of course all controlled by electrical devices; also you need an electric powered pump to circulate the heat.

Then there is the joy of throwing away your freezer contents...

You guys have been getting your share of crap lately with the rain and wind storms. Keep your chin up, your three months of sunshine are right around the corner.

 

The worst part for our predicament was without power the water pump in the well doesn't run so there's no water pressure.............no water for anything including toilets, not good. Our generator is kept full of petrol at all times and we run it once every 6-8wks to ensure its good for the next outage. The last one lasted 7 days.

How is your water down there H? Drinkable?

I was powerless 3 days, and dialup to office was the only connectivity, but circuits were overloaded and no power made for quick laptop battery drain. 3 days later I got power. Water is city, sewer too. Malcolm that would have SUCKED, I am so sorry you had that ... man I feel better now

Trees were felled in the thousands here. Some trees that had been standing firm for centuries were uprooted. As I drove out to work on Friday morning it was dark and I was being a moron and trying to figure out why my cell phone had no signal, and there was a massive tree across my way, I almost hit it. Many homes and buildings were damaged, and Bellevue, one of the upscale neighbourhoods here is still almost totally blacked out. My fishies died in the aquarium, and I was able to make a fire in the fireplace everyday. Good thing I had an old piano I was going to cart away. Disposal no longer needed ..... Fridge has to be emptied, loss of steak is a terrible thing. My house and garage and cars are fine

 

Amazing how much we depend on power; especially in the cities where running gens for every household would be a nightmare.

At least you still have your sense of humor. Hang in there. Sounds like if you hadn't gotten your power back you would have been eating fish .

 

Mike thanks, I was serious about the piano, MAN do they burn fast. Anyway my cat was OK, the fish and frogs were kind of a delicacy for her :P ... actually the cat had enough cat food, and I saved the dead frogs and fish for my daughter's dead critter collection. They dry really well in this weather.

 

Dude!! Welcome to my world!! We get those kind of winds here all the time, of course that might explain why we don't have any trees...

Oh, and all our power lines are underground so... and besides I'm the power guy here and yeah we don't have power outages...

don't recall the outputs of our gen but the only things we throw the breaker on are the a/c compressor and the sauna. All 3 fridges are powered as is the freezer and the fan for the wood burning fire place ( no pianos though!)...........we also don't run the washing machine or dryer unless absolutley necessary then we'll power down other appliances. Wouldn't be without one.......one tank of fuel lasts around 30hrs if you manage pwr consumption carefully.
