Easy to trade '85S seats into '88S4?
The '88S4 I just bought does not have sports seats...but my '85S does. Is is difficult to trade seats between these two cars? Thanks.

I don't know if it has memory seats or not since the car's still at my daughter's house in AZ. Just getting ready (in my mind) to give it the treatment. It gets worse though (my thinking that is).
My BLACK Sports Seats are in my Red on Black '85 The interior of the '88 is mostly Black/Gray. The '88 seats are light GRAY. If I put the black sport seats in my silver '88, they may look OK if I do both fronts and rear. However, swapping the gray regular seats into my Guards Red, black interior '85 may look weird. However I really like the sport seats a lot. I'll have to check on the memory thing.
I guess dyeing the leather is a possibility but I've see some seats where the color has worn off after a while and the old color shows through. Is that a concern?
Thanks, guys...you mention something I hadn't thought of.

Memory was standard on '88 up. SOunds like you have the silver grey seats, two bad I don't have sport seats, I'd swap with ya - I don't have the memory in my '87.

The rear seat bottoms will swap out just fine but the rear seat backs won't, they mount differently.
Reason I know all this is I bought a complete slate gray interior out of an '89, and found I had to hotwire the memory seat to use the electric adjustment, the plugs are different. And I have no rear seats as yet since the '89s bolt in place on both sides where the '86s are bolted on one and have a pin on the other.

However, all this may affect resale value later on. And I'm pretty sure that I will eventually get a GT or GTS...and may have to sell something. I'm out of parking now. Or, if a relative dies and leaves me any money before I myself die, I'd be in the market again. Or I found a few of Idaho's gold nuggets, or the lost dutchman mine, or.... My relatives are spending their money as fast as they can so that's a slim chance. I've had so many cars over my life that my pattern is to buy, fix them up as perfect as reasonable, and get another car to fix up. Actually, fixing or building/restoring cars is therapy for me. I've had over 40 "interesting cars" over the years. Probably more expensive than a head shrink but a lot more fun. And, as I told my wife as I encouraged her to let me buy this latest car...it's a pasttime that's a lot cheaper than fooling around with other woman! She reminded me about some woman that cut some apendages off her husband a few years ago. So, 928s are a great compromise!

You're raining on my parade! You mean that I just bought a car (without checking out all the details) and it may have been better for me to just live with the '85 and kept looking for the car I REALLY want? It's starting to sound that way. I wasn't aware that 928s had so many small refinements from year to year. To make things worse, a couple of really good GTs have shown up since I bought. I had the "buy it now" button way to fast (don't laugh...that's how I got the 968...too good a deal to pass up...and actually the latest was a good deal too... but I'm not made of money so there's a dissconect between my brain and my billfold.
I'm so **** about my cars that I have spare brains, relays, MAF, etc for them..."just in case." In fact, on the 968 I also have a complete spare wiring harness and fuel rail, complete set of relays, etc. Actually, I do feel that these are good investments as I bought them at reasonable prices when I could and if I ever need them, I won't have to pay out the nose. And on long trips, I carry extra brains and other key parts. I have enough in spare parts, like most 928ers probably do, to buy a Chevy Pickup of some kind....or even another 928! I'm a sick man.

Have Paul Champagne convert the grey seats to sport seats. What was your rush to buy another car again? You have waited a long time, and could have found a car with the right interior if you were going to swap. Champagne is your best bet.
Your punishment is to drive the car with comfort seats as it is...

I put '89 seats in my '79 without any issues at all. Originals were manual, but the factory power connectors were there and I don't recall anything short of hooking the electrics and bolting in place. Natch, a '79 didn't have memory anything, and apparently there were no wiring issues. Everything works great.
