If the seats need recovering anyway...then consider talking to Paul Champagne about the sport seat conversion...best of both worlds and you don't loose any memory functions!

I probably at least should see the car before I decide how to proceed. It's still in AZ. I saw a great GT on another thread that I would have purchased if I'd not see this car. The one I bought is a one-owner with only 40K miles. I want to trailer it to Idaho and do a Tbelt Water Pump job on it although, with my time schedule, I may have it shipped yet. Some suggest I have the Tbelt stuff don there and drive it back. That's an option but I like to do lots of WYAIT stuff when I'm working on a car so I know that all is perfect. The seats are something I didn't look into much, thinking changing out seats would be a snap. Sounds like it may not be as simple as I had assumed. I'd sell it though, if it would mean I could get closer to the GT I really want.

I put s4m seats front and rear into a 80. The front seat bolts were bigger on the memory seats, but that’s easy. I had to cut out a bit of the mounting rail in the 80 to make room for a small thicker bit on the memory seat. Probably could have just bolted them down hard and the mounting rail would have conformed. The rear seatbacks take two bolt mounts instead of one pin and one bolt. I just drilled and installed riv-nuts in the same location as the s4, and it came out perfect.

Where'd you find your Silver 88? Was that the one on Autotrader? I really want a later model (Silver) to add to the 79 SilverBulit one day, but have not found the right one yet. At 40K yours is probably in pretty good shape I imagine.

My '88 S4 was sitting in front of a mechanic's shop in Phoenix (My son in law lives there). He knew I was looking and I had him look it over while I directed him over the cell phone. He took fotos w/his cell phone and I looked them over then I talked with the mechanic that's worked on the car the past 6 years. I was told that the former owner (who owns 7 exotic cars) was buying a Maserati and rather than pay for a 928 tbelt job (it needs one) decided to have the garage sell the 928 for him. In addition to sitting with a For Sale sign on it, it was listed in cars.com or autotrader, I don't remember which. But it didn't sit long. Due to the great condition, always garaged, great glass, new tires, no dash cracks, original owner, 5 speed, great interior, 40K miles, etc., I bought it. But I was really looking for a GT but the various I had looked at were either in questionable shape or were asking more money than I could scrape up. The asking price by the PO was $22,500 but I got it cheaper. Others came along that were really what I was looking for AFTER I had given my word on this car. (I'm **** but I do stick by my word) However, the good GTs out there are more money, but it could be that after a Tbelt/WP job, switch seats, fix some small things, etc. I may have been better off to wait for what I was looking for in the first place? Although this car should be comparable, except for the gearing and few fewer horses, Also is apparently does not have LSD. Patience is absolutely not one of my virtues. I've not seen this car other than the fotos and what my son in law says but it appears to be near pristine in about every way. The guy only drove it about 2K miles a year, mostly in Arizona I understand (snowbird apparently). Minnesota Plates...the guy lives in MN and winters in AZ. The 928 was bought in Florida, stayed there a while and has spent at least the past 6 years in Phoenix. Shows no sign of rust. The owner respected his cars. With that many miles on the original T belt, I don't dare run it so I'll either tow or have it towed back to Idaho or have a local shop in Phoenix do the belt and drive it back. I drove my 968 from Atlanta and had no problems. Because the car's at my daughter's garage in AZ I'm really in no huge hurry although I can't wait to get the car and cherry it out. Sounds like I won't need to do much. But...since I really wanted a GT, I might should sell this one and go back to the search. My '85 is about as good as they come and I like it but I did want a newer car. If you're interested in a near perfect '85 we could talk although I don't think there are many left in this condition. I've thought about selling the 968 to help finance my next 928 too. I'm kinda undecided right now which way to go. I'd keep them all if I could afford it and if I had enough garage space. But I do know that I will be getting GT at some point. Maybe I should sell them ALL and get a GTS? I've thought about that too. These are such nice cars though, I'm afraid that if I sell what I have now, I might not be able to replace them with anything in comparable condition at anything like a reasonable price. If you're interested, we can talk about it.

The rear seats from the 85 will go in the 88. The inboard pin can be removed and the hinge from the 88 seat put on the 85 seat. You will have to remove the carpet to do this but it is an easy job. The back od the rear seat is plywood. When I fitted rear seats into the convertible I had to cut off about 3/4 of an inch from the backing to get clearance.
That is one nice looking 88.

The newer 88 seats will bolt directly into an early car. All you need to do is drill and tap the body where the bolts go for the inboard hinges.
The mirros are dependant on the memory controller under the seats to be connected. You can jumper through this by looking at the wiring diagram so the mirror controller still gets power. You will loose of course memory position on the Sports seats, but the mirrors will still work and remember there positions.

Harvey I don't like red cars but your 85 does sound nice! I originally wanted a silver s4 5 spd. but wound up with a black one. I have so much money in mods to the car i'd never get them out. I have 37,000 in receipts from PO and another 12,000 of mine. It is one of a kind. But I would sell it to get a silver one.
