Ok, changed a/t tranny fluid, filter and still shifts bad
Well, I have been having problems with my automatic tranny on my 83s. I just got done changing the fluid and filter and am still having problems.
The car seems to go in first or drive ok, but when is shifts into 2nd or 3rd,(not sure but around 20 to 30mph), the rpm just goes up and the gear will not hook up. I stop the car and get going again and it goes fine from a stand still, but has the same problem when it shifts.
Now if I go from reverse to drive, and back to reverse again it seems to work fine. It just seems to be when it wants to shift up that it doesn't find the gear.
Is there any adjustments that could cause this problem?, or should I break down and take it to the shop,(kills me not to be able to figure it out.
Thanks
Oscar

put car on a lift and check tran fluid as car is warned up and running ( car must be in neutral) add fluid until you reach high mark. I changed my filter and filled it with fluid and run it and fliud level check out ok. after driving it it would slide into gear as if the clutches were slipping, thought i needed a new trans. brought it to a local shop and had it put on a lift to check the fliud level and the filler res was bone dry (ouch) I added 1.5 quarts and car shifts like it should now.
