Default Wheels rubbing on the inside - need advice

Well ****! Need some advice here.

If you will recall in my thread about the new shoes "Finally getting some new shoes!" I just got some Carrera III wheels for my GT.

Fronts: 8x18ET57
Rears: 11x18ET51

I finally got around to trying one of the rears. I'm very happy that it looks like I don't have to roll/flare the rears at all, but it is tight! The issue is the inside - it's rubbing on the fender liner, but not too much.

So here's my dilema. I don't see anyway to pull the liner in any further, so do I let it wear in, or do I cut the offending section out?

Pics.

Sorry I don't speak truck!

Another thought is to get a very thin spacer 5mm-10mm and then flare the fender just a bit.

Isn't a bit of space around the tire kind of a safety thing?

Andrew,

Wow that's tight. Are you sure you don't have to roll the fenders at all? If it's that tight with the shocks at normal ride height, it's got to slam when you hit a bump, no?

To be truthful, I have bot drive it with the wheels on, but pushing down on the rear corner suggests that they don't rub. That said, I think it would be safer to have a bit more room just in case.

Not really. If it doesn't rub - then you're okay.

There is a guy in FL that does custom spacers, I have 3mm in my front.
Do you want the name?

Yes please. I just saw some 3mm spacers on ebay from Ernie's Alloys for $60. Can he do better than that?

That is the dude Ernie! See other thread about adjusting suspension nuts to see really tight clearance on my OB. I have 2.5" of ground in the front and it needs to come up some.

I would be worried about hitting that first pothole or speed bump, that looks really tight.

SPACERS? If you cut them down a little it looks like you'd be OK - you are really pushing the limits here, it seems.

Looks to me like you need to go from the 295 to the 285 width . That is a tight fit

Can you take the fendre liners out? Some of the early 928s never had rear fender liners. Withlout it you might be OK.

I can see that you are going "wider" for traction. Should consider the aspect ratio too. You need some to maintian traction, otherwise the width makes no difference.
