Update:
I am in the process of replacing the suspension. I have some GT rear springs and some front springs and shocks from a later model that can be adjusted ( ride height ). I am replacing all of the bearings, bushings, tie rods, and ball joints while I'm at it as well. The S-4 brakes w/ stainless lines and drilled discs will be going on at that time as well. I am hoping to have this finished up within the next week and a half so that the car can make it to Sebring. Keep your fingers crossed for me. The body work is an ongoing process.
PS. I overheated it a little last night and lost alot of coolant. Upon further investigation I found two cracks in my coolant expansion tank. The old one is out and a new one is on the way. Just something else to add to the list.

Wow, I'm looking at the dates of my posts here in this thread and I'm realizing just how slow my progress has been with this car. Jeez. Thats what owning too many project 928's will do to you. Take that as a lesson before you run out and buy every great deal you find. ;-)
Here are a few more recent pics. The suspension is in, the brake mods are almost done. I ended up putting 320mm zimmerman rotors on the front and making a custom adapter to make them fit. The car will be getting paint once my other two 928 paint projects are done. But thats another post.

The update is that I haven't really done a whole lot with this car for over a year and a half. I have been focusing on my other two 928's. The 82 928 turbo got painted and I've been trying to finish sorting out the turbo system. My 84 has undergone a widebody transformation (see avatar) and will be ready for paint in the next month or so (fingers crossed). I really need to get back on this 78 widebody. Maybe your inquiry will help me to get motivated again. I'll try to do a little with it today. Thanks so much for asking.

OK, quick update. It had been so long since I began this process I had forgotten alot of what I had done and what I had checked. While flitting around doing odd jobs on three different 928's yesterday and in between coats of paint in my bathroom I thought about something that I had read long ago. It was in regards to the adjustment screw that you access with the long allen wrench. I remember reading somewhere that you can adjust this thing by ear. To turn activate the fuel pump and then begin turning the screw until you hear the injectors open up ( squeek/whistle ) and then turn it back just past the point where they stop squeeking. I did this and it started and stayed running on the first try. It was a little rough and grumbly at first but once it warmed up it ran properly and the throttle became very crisp. I went to take it for a test drive, for the first time in about two years, and found that the clutch isn't working. But hey, I'm happy that the car is now running. Thats one less 928 problem to weigh heavy on my mind.

Update: I have passed the torch of the Code Red Widebody to Mark "Tampa 928s". I don't have the time or patience to finish this project. My turbo 928 project and my other widebody conversion need my attention and dollars. I am confident that Mark will do a good job finishing the project and I wish him all the best in doing so.
