I got a phone call a couple months ago from someone at Hemmings about my 1989 928 S4 that I sold at the Owls Head Transportation Museum auction this last fall, in Owls Head Maine, and I forgot which publication he said they would be covering the auction in, or what month it was coming out.
So, I'm hopeful that someone here may have seen the coverage of that auction and pass that info to me so I can get a back issue.
It could have been Hemmings Motor News, which is the one I think it was in, or Hemmings Sports and Exotics, or Hemmings Classic Cars. Any info would be appreciated.

Anyway, Motor News and Sports and Exotic have a lot of overlap in their auction reviews. I'll keep an eye out in the next issue for a 928. I would definitely notice it since I haven't seen one in their auctions yet.

Thanks Matt.
I just got the December Hemmings Motor News issue and didn't see the coverage of the auction. I don't know if I missed it in the October or November issues, or if they haven't done the story yet, or if they did the story in one of the other mags.
Please let me know if you see it. Thanks.

I just received an email from the guy at Hemmings that wrote the article and he said it's in the January 2007 Hemmings Motor News due out any day now. So please don't spend any time on my account.

Condition: 3
Selling price $7500
Average Selling Price: $15,000
"Let's hope the buyer read the material the very honest seller left with the car. If he didn't, he might not know that this 102,000-mile automatic 928 was due for at least $3,000 worth of maintenance, making this not quite the bargain it seems. No question, the 928 was remarkable when it was new, a supercar that could get you from Point A to Point Z at maximum velocity and with minimum fuss. These are costly cars to maintain, though, and many have been neglected and mistreated, leaving financial pits for the new owner to stumble into. We couldn't get a close look at the interior because the doors were locked, but the owner had posted a sign with his cell phone number. 'Test drives for serious bidders. Let's take 'er out.'"

I don't understand the comment about "not quite the bargain it seems". The purchase price was $7500, add $3000 and you're still at $10,500 for a car that sells for $15,000. It's still a bargain...don't you think?
Too bad they didn't have the chance to ride in the car. When people see and ride in my 87, they are often amazed that it's a 20 year old car with 163K on the odometer.

My 89 did drive nicely, but $3000 was the bare minimum. I wasn't very good about keeping up with the maintenance and it really needed a lot more than that put into it. That's why I got my GTS, after 10 years with my 89 it was time for a change. As I told the author, I felt the car sold for exaclty what it should have, I have no regrets.
I still have not heard a thing from the new owner. I put together a three-ring binder of information for the new owner and included all my contact information. Kind of discouraging. Nobody took me up on my offer of a test drive. Their loss.
