Mine burns a little bit, but i think that has to do with high rpm runs.

Black soot could be a rich running deal and maybe not complete burn in a particular cylinder. But that is excessive. Maybe you could talk to the NE Shane as his gts engined 928 appeared to be giving off some smoke.

Then I can live with 1 litre/7-8k km. I can comment though it does 'seem' to burn more if I go through 2 -3 tanks of gas with very spirited driving. An old friends father was an engineer for Rolls Royce and told stories of taking engines apart to find out why it wasn't burning enough oil.

To the specific question asked; seems rather much oil consumption............have you checked your spark plugs for 'wet' condition?

Also, the black spitting from the exhaust is an over rich fuel condition...................check air filter, MAF etc etc.

Oil has 4 ways to go out;
A drip
Crankcase vent
rings
valves.

Different places likely annoy different people. Drips I have to fix, the vent I would "want" to fix, rings and valves fall into the big picture long term repair plan.

I use Mobil 1 15/50, and change the oil every four to five thousand miles. It is usually somewhere a half quart down at the time of change

Mine does- I go through about 1.5 quarts in 3000 miles. I don't see any blue smoke though. I think I'm leaking from the oil fill tube, and the oil pan gasket.

Both of my GT's burn quite a bit of oil. My GTS less so.

My '91 will go through a quart every 600 miles when I do not drive it every few days. When I drive it several times per week consumption goes down to about 1qt/1000 miles.

The '89 consumes a bit less than the '91.

The GTS consumes a quart about every 1000 miles.

My 89 GT is less than 1/2 a quart low after a little over 3000 miles since an oil change.

Mine throws a bit on start up. Haven't seen any change in the dipstick level though. Still won't be statisfied to I do a compression test.

Mine will throw oil out through the breather system at speeds over 150 MPH, but otherwise burns no measurable amount of oil between annual/10k mile changes.

My S4 used oil, about a quart per 1000 miles (and yes i am a leadfoot on it) and it puffed smoke at start sometimes and had all the nasty soot in the exhaust. Once I installed the GTS breather kit, no more oil use and no more smoke at start and no more soot.. Thank God... seriously it was driving me nuts. I do recommend the GTS breather setup. BTW there was a lot of oil ingestion through the breather before, but now it is bone dry
