Hey John: I've got Mark's pan off....you want to buy some naked pictures?
Constantine,
Greg builds very nice motors and has the experience on the 928 motor. He actually grooved my main bearing set for my engine build since he made his own jig just to do this!

Yep, I would agree with that! Good to have him come up in this thread, I think many can benefit from just listening to what he says.
By the way John, Sebring is getting close! Registration starts 12/06/2006.

Mike:
The engine developed too much crankcase pressure and started pushing oil out everywhere. The leakdown had been very high (read as: silly high) for about a year and we were just waiting to see how far we could push it without it going "boom". It still ran and sounded fine. It is not apart, yet, but we're fairly certain the bores have got significant agony. Alusil is a fairly fragile cylinder style, especailly when an engine is used as hard as that one. Every little piece of dirt or debris leaves a scratch. Porsche pretty much used Nicosil in all the race engines they have built for the last 20 years. The mild 944 Turbo cars and the mild 968 cars are about the only exception to this. The 944 GTR's were all Nicosil.

Thanks Greg. That's a well bulit engine if it just developed worn cylinders when you consider the myriad if ways race engines usually go. I've noticed that Nikasil is used on many serious race engines today, even iron block ones. I was considering chrome for steel liners but will use Nikasil just because there are so many companies that do it for these applications and they do the final honing too! Anything that keeps me from worrying about getting the hone right is a good thing
Thanks again for sharing, if you ever want to get a thread going about a proffesional 928 engine build there would be eyeballs stuck to computer screens everywhere.
