Default 85/86 Supercharged/turbocharged ?

What power figures have been obtained from forced induction 85/86 early 32v cars ?

These engines have smaller inlet and exchaust valves, so I assume that does restrict boost somewhat.

What injector sizes have been used ?

These questions are related to the SharkTuner for these cars.

Hi John,

With my 2.0L Auto-rotor (10lb pulley), I'm getting 400 rwhp/ 385 rwtq with 30lb injectors.

Once I get to do some fuel mapping, and x-pipe, I'm expecting more

2.4 Autorotor, 6 lb pulley, intercooler disconnected (leaking), 24# injectors, X-pipe, RMB (372 RWHP, 343 RWTQ) Things on my list: Fix intercooler, larger heat exchanger, K&N cold air intake (almost done), dual electric fansw/ custom shroud (almost done), Devek 1 3/4" primaries headers w/ 2 3/4" exhaust & Bullet mufflers, sharktuner, gradually increase to 10 lb pulley. Goal: 475 RWHP

Thanks - that's great info !

Anyone else ?

Does anyone envisage the need to go larger than 30# ?

John,
I'm running an Eaton (presently no IC) at 7 pounds of boost; 30 lb injectors, fuel pressure is 37 pounds at idle, 50 pounds at boost.

Thanks Rick/Shane !

Everyone so far is using twin screw - anyone using centrifugal ?

Unless I hear to the contrary I will assume that largerthan 30# injectors are not required in anyone's development program...

I raised my boost to 12psi and switched to 30lbs, John, I was still rich and I believe to tune it I would have had to switch to a lower pressre regulator. The stock '86 reg put to much pressure to the 30's and ended up robbing power. Never got the chance to do the dyno as she caught on fire...

Hi Shane
The problem with lowering the fuel presure even further with 30# is that you are then even lower than rated pressure 40psi IIRC and so the spray pattern suffers.

This is where the ST comes in of course......

12psi would be "inrteresting"........

My dyno chart attached showing boost/power on my otherwise bone-stock 85/86 (no exhaust mods) at just under 5psi.

I had 30# injectors, but went back to 24# injectors since I was having some fuel economy issues. If I had to do it all over again and the ST was available, I would have kept the 30# injectors (assuming same boost). I was in the process of upgrading to a twinscrew system and had planned to run around 10 PSI of boost and would have used 42# injectors.

OK Mike,
That's very useful info. I can see how at the low rpm A/F ratio looks too "fat"

The LH2.2 controller has some technical limitations which makes the tricks we did to accomodate >30# injectors very difficult, if not impossible.

However we do know that with a stock fuel system, 30# have given around 450rwhp on GTs. e.g. DR's kit.

So with some lift of fuel pressure at the top end, with adjustments from the ST, the 85/86 could cope with higher boost levels....... ?

John,

Larger than 30# injectors are not required for my project. Thanks.

I know Tim Murphy is shipping his firs 85-86 kit as we speak. Not sure I'm supposed to let the cat out of the bag on that bit of info, but here yea go!

Hopefully the buyer of this kit will dyno the car once completed. Tim did not have enough time to dyno the test mule before the owner wanted the car back.

I’m running a Paxton centrifugal supercharger at around 6psi. No intercooler and stock injectors (24lb). My estimation is around 340rwhp (~395FWHP). With the current supercharger I can’t make any more boost. When the engine reaches 6000rpms the SC impeller speed is at max.
