Default Yet Another Cup Holder Thread. '79... Console...

I've looked at a ton of cup holder options lately. Nothing ready-made looks particularly good to me, but I've seen some interesting mods.

(BTW, I don't want to hear anything about cup holders not belonging in a Porsche I do make some long, solo freeway trips in mine)

Here's an interesting thing I found in the 996 forum:

http://www.birdautomotive.com/996.htm

Essentially, it adds an insert onto the standard console storage that sits between the box and the lid. Integrated into the insert is a swingout cup holder. I'm thinking I can get something similar fabricated that fits a standard 928 console box. Problem is that mine doesn't have one. Did I see something lately here that said that the OB's didn't have a console box option? Any particular reason? Will a later one fit in mine? Can someone send me some detailed photos of a standard box, in place, and with lid flipped up to see the fittings?

Also, here's an interesting modification done on an 996:

I've got to say that I am interested in this as well. My 79 doesn't have a center console so the one shown above doesn't work. However, on long trips it is nice to have a place to put the darn coffee cup.

Thanks,

bronto,

Don't know if this is the shot you're looking for, but it seems that the swing out cup holder would interfere with the console buttons.

The VW Beetle has 5 cup holders - maybe that is a better option

Thanks, that helps. I was thinking that they could swing out to the side instead of forward like the one for the 996.

The photo helps. I'm reconsidering how to design it. I think the cassette holders are useless, so I'm thinking that I would strip that out and use the space for the swing out cup holders. Swinging to the side. I think if they were mounted far forward they wouldn't interfere with seat belts.
