LED's are on my X-mas list. I've been following what you guys have done and am going to copy it.

Thanks in advance.

I've been buying my LEDs from www.superbrightleds.com and www.autolumination.com. #74 bulbs for the pod switches and HVAC control head, 44mm festoon for the shifter "PRND32" on the console, and, iirc, 38mm festoons for the courtesy lights.

I haven't done my clock yet, but I think that's a #74 also.

44mm for most of the interior lights (excl glove box/power outlet etc), 38mm won't work - 42mm might just if you snug up the springs (just get 44mm)

Also get the versions with 9 or 10 individual LED's - any less you will likely be wishing for more light. Bear in mind the 'bright white' or 'super white' are like fluorescent light vs incandescent light - you may not like it - it is indeed a sterile look compared to the yellowish stock festoon bulbs... consider yellow as well as red, blue etc LED's.

Thanks, Alan, as always.

I've actually started another thread, "Using LED bulbs in the 928 (fitments, size, etc.)" in the hopes that we can collect as much info as possible in one place: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/312635-using-led-bulbs-in-the-928-fitments-size-etc.html. I didn't think that anyone searching for LED info would think to query "ATTN KNUCKLEHEADS" !!

Here is something I just learned... Apparently the 78 and 79 models don't have the lights in the doors, as we have them on the later models. So they only have three instead of five interior lights.

I now have an interior light kit for these older models that contains only 3 instead of five LED bulbs, at a lesser cost.

Why no red for the interior (overhead) lights?

Hmmm... Wouldn't that turn a 928 into a red light district...?

I have a customer with a 79 who told me his car has 3 interior lights. If yours only has two, then that would mean that 78 and 79 are different also...

Nicole, that's interesting -- I thought 78/79 were the same in this respect. I'll have to look more closely at a '79. (Not Bill's)

Most autoparts stores sell Blule leds that will fit. You may have to bend the contacts slightly. I did all mine for under $20 total! Put a 6" blue led up in each foot well as well for ambient lighting. I also bought two packs of individual blue leds (3 in each pack) and drilled them under the door sill plates to light up the clear "928". Pic's not as impressive as seeing them in a dark parkinglot.

With all blue leds and the EL Glow gauges in blue, it really sets the mood..too bad the back seat's so small.
