Why 928 Prices Will Continue to Drop

I have to disagree with this assertion. I'll agree that 90+ models that don't have low enough mileage to attract collectors may decrease, but I suspect the other models have reached an equilibrium point. The 928 is already an enthusiast's car, so I wouldn't expect the price of gas to have any effect on the desirability of the car except for at the fringe. Similar to pre-1990 corvettes, different models are more desirable and will demand a higher price. Vehicle condition is becoming the primary determinant of price. As for performance, the 928 stacks up well against all but the most modern vehicles.
At the same time, I don't see any reason to expect the values of 928s to increase (with the exception of some rare and low mileage vehicles). For an enthusiast's vehicle, there are still too many of them available for demand to drive up prices.
Obviously this is just my own opinion, but the pricing history of similar vehicles is consistent.

Uhmmm...who cares? These conversations are just idle chit chat I guess. I just chuckle when they turn into an announcements and debates.
Is there anyone out there that was foolish enough to buy their 928 as an investment?...Please stand up and be counted! ...guess you really wouldn't want to speak up would you?
If these cars had the value that many claim (me first in line!) 90% of us wouldn't be owning them....or putting blowers and such on them. (That'll kill the value in less time than it does to install it).
I think one should own their 928 because they appreciate what it is and what it was engineered to be. Scream, kick some dirt, hypothesize and wave the flag...they aren't investments...at least not now.
From a financial standpoint, they are a complete waste of money. You will NEVER get the value out as to the money you put in. If you truly love the 928, because of what it is and not because it's Porsche, it can be an understandable reason as to why you own one...or more. I would highly suggest having the means for such a hobby. I think even though the values have dropped, most STILL cannot afford them. I think if many here were honest with themselves, they would not be able to justify owning one. Seriously, there is no getting around it...these are money pits.

I wonder whether the 356 people were having this discussion in 1976, 11 years after the last, 25 after the first?
30 years from now, 928's will still be worth something.

As to the supply in 30 years, complexity vs. simplicity may balance rust resistant vs tin worm feast.

Any of you looking to get out of your "bad investments", let me know. If you've got a decent 86.5 or S4 5 sp I may just do you a favor and take it off your hands before the value of it plummets.
You know how to reach me when you've come to your senses.

Yes in general the price of 928's will go down, but that will have little effect on the cars a knowledgeable person would want to buy. Cars with zero problems on the PPI and less than 50k on the odometer are never going to be much cheaper than they are now. Now is when the serious potential owner of a 928 has to give thought to getting one of the last few good cars that may ever be available, or face the cost of restoring a car where the "base" condition won't effect the final cost all that much.
I don't think parts availability will ever be a big problem, prices may rise, Porsche may not sell them, but somebody will.

I really don't know of any other car that for me has as much "want" factor as a 928. With 100% certainty I know what I would do if I won the lotto, it would be to have a 928 restored to my specifications. Followed by a track car and something interesting that flys with at least two motors and some juice. The catch is I understand math therefore buy no lotto tickets, so I will have to hope that budget and 928 intersect for some non lotto winning reason.
BTW I recognize the wishful thinking, you want a 928 just like I do and HOPE the price is going to go where you want it.
Good luck to both of us.
