Injection and Ignition Brain Research
Hi All:
Doing a little research just for my own personal curiosity. Would you all please post here, or PM me, either way, the year and make of your car(s), plus your ignition and injection brains' Bosch and Porsche part numbers? I'm most interested in the numbers that came stock with your cars, but if you also have other number brains that you got later to replace your stock numbers (due to rebuild or otherwise), I'd like to know that information too.
I'm going to make a spreadsheet tracking the information, and anyone who wants the spreadsheet when I'm done will be welcome to have it for the cost of a PM or a post here.
Thanks all for your help!!

Wow!! Nice offerings, guys. More than I thought I would get...
Steve J. and Garth S. Thanks! Both sites had very good info for the later models. For some reason, I'd had trouble finding the info the first time I checked John's website, but I was able to find it this time.
SharkSkin...you funny!!
Rich9928p, you, sir, are apparently much like me. You want to know everything about everything. Too bad I'll never really get anywhere, but I'm interested and I'm trying to learn. Eventually, something soaks in when you live with a dyed in the wool wrencher...but it just never seems to be enough to be useful! LOL....anyway, awesome list! Thanks!
Catch you later!

In the hardcopy of PET page 125 list all the 'controllers' including he FI and Ign. brains. For corresponding Bosch numbers they're scattered throughout the WSMs with the Porsche part numbers.
Also, 928 Specialists, do a good job of listing which brains are associated with which MY of car.
For specific differences between different years of the same model you'll probably find that the 'eproms' were mapped a little differently but the major components of the PCB were all common.
Now that being said JDS have developed a new version of the 'tile' which is the part of the LH brain that's weak. Given that the LH brain can and does fail with no previous symptoms it's a good preventative maintenance point.

As I said earlier, I'm really just doing this for my own personal curiosity. In looking for brains for Kevin, I've noticed that there seems to be some discrepancies out there as to which units will fit what cars. It got me wondering.
Thanks all!! What a great group of people this is...

An updated LH control unit with a more reliable hybrid circuit is available from a few
Rennlist sponsors, e.g. 928 International.

Then we got the 84 Euro with a stick shift (now my baby), and I discovered, quite interestingly, that the stock LH unit for that car was the same number as the stock one for the automatic...the very number brain we had been looking for without success. Kevin and I had thought, based on info we must have misinterpreted out of the WSM, that the brains would have different numbers for the auto and stick cars, especially since they don't have the same motor M28 numbers.
In the stick car, the stock brain had been rebuilt by the PO through some outfit in Florida, and it came back still not working quite right. There's a definite miss in the low end, and loss of power in the high end. The PO delivered the car to us with an 85 brain in it, which is working, but as we all know it probably doesn't work as well as the original. Yikes, these cars with their electrical and brain issues. What a PITA! But man, the car has so much power, and is such an animal, that we're really dying to know whether the correct brain would add even more to it... Heck, at this point, Kevin's wondering if the car might be not 100% stock, because he feels, after working on it for two weeks now, cleaning up loose, disconnected or broken vacuum lines, corroded wires, and fixing poor mechanical work (stuff is loose that shouldn't be, it had the wrong spark plugs AND the wrong timing belt tooth type, that sort of thing) that the power is really impressive and very close in feel to the supercharged automatic. It gets better and better every day...
