Actually, believe it or not, I read the original German version a few years after it came out. I had borrowed it from the Stuttgart Library. I have an English version, but never read it completely - I just use it as a reference.

In reality, German, English, it's almost the same to me.

How much of a discount does knowing German get you. My old boss was stationed in Germany and allways got big discounts on parts compared to his English speaking friends. He also told me that He got a bear diploma I guess they have some big tour of all sorts of brewerys and you get a diploma for drinking all the different brands.

It seems there are two editions also done in German language. 1st in 1977 and 2nd in 1978. Prices at German eBay are between 100 and 200 euros. Its not cheaper to buy German edition it seems.

Is the 78 just a reprint or is there a suplement?

AFAIK only print year and edition number were changed, everything else is exact same. Haven't done page by page comparison though.

Nicole

In the service there dosen't need to be much of an excuse to go drinking I just thought it was a funny story. As far as the discount goes I emagine it was due to the volume of parts he bought or just because you can joke around with people when you know there language and friends always get disscounts regardless of language.
