Trade nice black supple leather 12 way power heated seats for nice racing seats?
I am considering replacing my seats with racing seats.
Something like the GT3 type.
I would like to save some weight and install a 5 point harness.
My seats are black, supple leather, 12 way power, lumbar, both sides heated, both sides memory and they are in very nice shape.
Anyone interested?

Hi 1bgdog, I want to find out first how much the new seats will cost me. So I would prefer a trade. But if I find some good seats, I will make you an offer.
Here some pics...

Hi Brendan, I send you a PM back, I really need two equal seats to swap for. Thanks.
Paul, please let me know how these seats are once you receive them. They look sharp.
Is there some sort of DOT requirement on seats? Could there be a danger in using some Chinese knock offs?

Hi Sab,
Don't know how far along you are with buying race seats but GT3 seats are very $$$$ for what you get. You could get Sparco, Momo, and even Recaro race seats a bit cheaper, some retaining fore and aft adjustments, that will handle 5 and 6 point harnesses. There are other seats, Cobra and Racetech come to mind, that are also very nice for this use. Then there are the aluminum ones.
One caution though, this is not a place to go cheap.

Don't want to be the one to crash test the seat and find the seat back not there to catch my back and head. Nor to find out the mounts were made of cheeeep metal that rips out of the frame rail mounts.
Most agreed with Constantine. It's like buying cheap seatbelts and helmets.
Been mulling performance seats for a long while with seatback pass-through holes so I can use those 4-point belts.
Love the look of the Sparco Siena sport seats.

So cheap seats could break apart in an impact?
Thanks,

that is a scary thought , something going wrong with the seats in an accident. So does anyone know if racing seats have some sort of DOT aproval?
Those Sprco seats look nice, but they look heavy and will probably not sit much lower then the stock seats.

Hi Sab,
The brand name race seats all have a FIA rating for use in motorsports applications, meaning they have been crash tested. There are different seats available from each supplier and depending on the style and functions it has will determine how much it will weigh. If your looking for absolute weight as a factor then only look at the one piece, bucket style seats. But if you want some everyday comfort get seats that you can recline and adjust.
Have you ever felt the weight of your stock seats? When I removed our 1989 928S4 seats for some maintenance I almost broke my back getting them out. I swore some one put lead in the bottoms of them! I'm sure the Sparco seats your looking at are many pounds lighter than the stock ones.
My 1986.5 red track car has Sparco Pro 2000 seats in it. They are rigid bucket style seats and only have fore/aft adjustment. However my wife and I drove to the SITM event a few years ago in the red car and we were surprised at how comfortable they were. We did not have any soreness and my wife liked how the seats wrapped around her. I'm 6'1" and 200 lbs. and I drive to and from the track events. No problems with my comfort in these seats.
Again, do not cheap out, get good quality rated seats and harnesses.
Hope that helps,
Constantine

Hi Constantine,
Think I read that them 928 power seats are around 55-60lbs. Each.
The non-powered Audi 5000 seats I swapped out of my old car was much much lighter.
Helps with the weight issue when I'm the motor powering the seat functions.

Hmmmmm! Sport lightweight buckets.

Sab: you have a worthy car, why not just set your 928 seats aside and buy some GT3 seats in black and be the first 928 on the block with them. They are re-sellable later if you don't want them any more.
I would.
I would.
