Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great tips and feedback.

Regarding converting my auto, or just buying a 5 sp, I still have not decided what to do. Am still in the gathering information stage, which besides the parts and work needed to be done, includes figuring the costs involved.

So far, for costs, its pretty much a wash. By the time I buy all the needed parts, I could just sell my car, add a bit of budget, and buy a nice 5 sp.

BUT, my car is in excellent shape, and I know it very well now, so getting another car does add a bit of the unknown. Plus its somewhat unique with the no side moldings. Original interior, original exterior paint, etc.

BUT, getting a used or rebuilt tranny, getting a used or rebuilt torque tube, etc, does add a bit of the unknown.

As far as what is easier, no doubt, just going out and buying a 5 sp is the way to go.

BUT, I have never been one to take the easy way out. Accept when it comes to food and drinks. Then I always take the path of least resistance. Heh heh...

BUT I digress.

Ok, back on topic.

Z cars RULE! Heh heh...

AND 501's! Excellent. We had a 4 door 510 that I learned to drive stick in. I love those cars.

Ok, back on topic.

I'll keep you guys posted, but I can say I learned so much just between yesterday when I posted this thread, to now, that its unbelievable.

I have a much better idea of what I'm dealing with and how to proceed.

Ok, I'll be reporting back in as I make decisions and come up with new questions.

THANKS! You guys rock! I love this list!

Ed

ps: too many cups of coffee this morning!

For everyone that is thinking of the 5sp conversion I would try finding a 5sp car that is the same year as your an taking it for a drive. There is alot of work to do the conversion for what you gain there is no overdrive it's basiclly 1:1 ratio in 5th same as either AT trans. all you gain is the diff ratio If I only could have only one 928 it would be an AT especialy if I used it in city traffic. I live in the country and use my 79 5sp Mainly because it's cheeper to run than the s4 and I don't need to row the car thru stop and go traffic it spends most of the drive in 5th.
