No, because the scavenge pump will need a toothed v-belt to avoid slippage, thus I am having stuff modified on the pulley side...

Kinda... Cut out the old air pump pulley out of the crank one, make a new one from aluminium, slip it on and then add what's left from the original assembly of crank pulleys

Then I may have missed something. Whats the problem with putting it where the air pump goes?

thats the pic i was referring to with my bum description of 'wider' than the aircon pulley - i was meaning wider north-south rather than diameter! in the pic above nothing is removed from the standard crank pulley, the new toothed pulley is slipped over the end and both are bolted up to the crank/harmonic damper.

That is the Kelly Moss 928 engine which resides in a 944 GTR. They wanted $15,000 to dry sump my GT; I laughed really hard. Here is another pic:
