Thoughts on this low rise lift
I saw this lift at a car show this summer. To me it looks like it would work pretty good for most under car projects.

That's the one I use and I am real happy with it.

nice peice of kit
although from what ive read, get a high lift version, i know more then a few 911 guys have them. The arguement i have heard for the low rise is that it dosent get the car much higher then is possible with jack stands.

For the same price you can get a nice mid-rise lift which'll be a lot more functional (you'll be able to take the wheels off and service the suspension, hubs, brakes, etc. - which are some of the main reasons you need to lift up a car).
And for not much more ($300-400) you can get a full size lift.

Several of us here have this one and are very happy with it:

$899 for a REALLY NICE hydraulic mid-rise.
With the addition of some 2x10 "runners" on either side - you just park over it in your garage!

I've used Roger's lift and it has several advantages. It's the perfect height to lie on your back and work under the car on a roller or laying on a carpet. It also has a crossbar so that you can lift the car while it's on the lift. The scissor lift doesn't allow access to the whole area under the car.

When I built my large garage I had no idea I would become a 928 addict or I would have increased the floor height and put in a full size lift.
I could not use the scissor type lift because it did not allow you access to the whole of the car.
Fine for a few home mechanic jobs but not enough for all the rest.
The kwiklift is perfect for all 928 related work, very strong and safe. Extremely easy to use and you just park on it. Does not need to be moved and you can lift the car when on the lift and remove all wheels.
A lot safer than being under a car on Jack Stands.
Very comfortable when working underneath. About 30"+ of room. Use a crawler with a back rest and its like home from home. Any higher and it would not be useful. The next step would have to be a full size lift.
Each to there own, however I spent a lot of time researching lifts and this was perfect for my scenario.

I just picked one up used from some guy on the craig's list for $200. Works great with much more clearance than I could ever get with jackstands. I just leave it in the lowered position & park the shark on top.

Roger,
Thanks for posting pics you can definately get a better idea of the functionality of the thing.
That lift though isnt so much a lift is it. More like a ramp and you jack the rear of it up to make the car level? Am i right?

Ryan,
Exactly right - just use a trolly jack and up she goes. The legs at the back fold down and lock in place and you then remove the jack. Total car access.
I park the car on the lift/ramp either at an angle or level. In the level position its a great theft prevention.
Much higher than I could ever get on jack stands. Very solid and SAFE.
Remove the front legs and it lays flat on the floor and you park on it. No need to move it.
I saw one on castors with a car on it and it moved around real easy.
The scissor lift prevented work on some of the car that's why I went for the kwiklift.

i am dissapointed in the price of this thing though. Honestly i think $1400 for a painted one is a bit much considering what full hydraulic units are being sold for. If anything i may build one of my own.
Is there anyplace you can get these things for less? The site seemed to be the manufacturer. I imagine if harbor freight sold something like this, it would be $299. $1400 puts this far out of what i would be willing to spend on it though. I am sure they are fun to work under though.

I agree about the price, however you get what you pay for. Extremely strong and light weight, my full size Chevy van sits on it no problem.
Making one yourself or buying from Harbor Freight sounds like using EFI clamps and hose to replace factory hoses. just kidding.
IIRC correctly I spoke directly to the owner of the company and negotiated a small discount. Still paid over $1000 two years ago.
Shipping was cheap at $60.
