About to give up on trans cable replacement
(1981 US Auto trans) After a good 10-12 hours on this removal and replacement of my trans shift cable I'm ready to give up and get it trucked to a mechanic.
The cable keeps getting hung up on the 14mm nut on the sleeve right before where the torque converter connects to the trans.
Wally, any of you really experienced guys out there have any info?
Rolf from Pasadena was kind enough to come by and spend two hours helping me, and I have to say his S4 looks great! Compared to an S4, my engine bay is quite spacious.

I do not see how you could do it right with out droping the torque tube and replacing the foam under the shifter. You might be able to get it in there but my guess is it is going to tear up the foam.

Did you remove at the transmission, the ball, boot, and retaining fasteners? Also, the exhaust system, heat shields, and rear clamp (hose type) around the torque tube?
As the WSM implies, you may also support the transmission with a jack, and dismount the transmission from the transmission mounts, lowering the transmission to the crossmember so as to lower the torque tube, providing more clearance. But this step may not be necessary.

The manuals I have don't say anything about that stuff. Just hook a line around an end and pull it through.
I bought a telescoping inspection mirror, so now I can at least see where it is getting hung up.
