Default HELP ... hex nut stripped.....

Okay, I started the pod removal project today and got to the hex nut below the ignition. Someone had been here before and stripped the nut! I tried carefully with an allen wrench to get the nut to move but no luck. Tried some WD40 and left it there for an hour still no luck and I really cannot torque it enough. Any suggestions on how to work around this? I am so close to removing the damn pod!

Are you talking about the allen bolt that goes straight upt through the ignition switch?

I just looked at mine and you should be able to get a pair of vise grips on it.

If not and it is totally round inside you are kinda out of luck. If it isn't try an american size allen key or a Torx bit maybe you will get lucky. Option #2, If you can get up there with a small hack saw or a Dremel with a cut off wheel on it, cut a grove in the screw head so you can use a screwdriver.

Use a spare allen you don't need. put a dab of epoxy or JB weld on it and insert it in the stripped screw. Once it hardens you should be able to get it out. Of course the screw and allen will be worthless at that point, though nail polish remover may get them apart.

I went to Sears and bought some bolt-out sockets when I stripped my pod's allen bolt...

If you have torx bits, lightly tap a slightly larger one than the hole and remove with socket. This works well on certain applications.

Thanks all. I used some epoxy and that worked! Anyone have any suggestions on where to get a new hex bolt for the pod (that goes up by the ignition)?

Where are you in LA? I just purchased replacement bolts and have extras for both the 60mm and the 100mm. Stainless steel even. Pick them up or send me postage and you can have a pair for free. Home Depot may have a 65mm regular hex capscrew that will work. You will not find the 100mm bolt there. I purchased mine from McMaster Carr. PM me if interested.

Tip: Buy those Sears bits and keep 'eem in the toolchest. They'll pay for themselves the first time you need them.
