Porsche c928 Carelli
#2
Never heard of Carelli before, if you want a topless 928 then 10K seems to be an ok price. I never cared for the cab's i hate that the back end looks like a pickup glass tonneau cover, i think someone with some designing ideas could come up with something allot better then just a flat top for these cars. I never thought the cabs were very flattering.
a pickup however at least you get some utility from that. The one 928intl has was pretty nice, i think they wanted 5K for it, that seemed like a deal it looked like a pretty nice car.

Carelli did conversions back in the 80's about the same time as straman. There is a guy that runs the stereo install store down the street that worked for them back then and is very informed on their conversions.

I've seen lots of OB convertibles but never seen an S4 convi. Has anyone done one?
I thought this one was a bit interesting and decently done and thought it would be of interest to some of us.

Not many present day 928 owners know, understand or even care about the cabriolet type cars. (This goes for the 928 itself, but thats a whole 'nother story) Carelli acquired the half built cars directly from Porsche before a lick of interior was placed in the car. These are NOT conversions per se. They are in fact, modified 928's in the way/as if Porsche was to do the work/produce a convertible themselves. Carelli was the only producer of this type. All of the others were "aftermarket" conversions. If you think the 928 was expensive at near $30K when it came out, try buying a Carelli! These cars were close to $60K if I have the pricing correct. (ADDED:Make that $80K)
The cabrio's look dated by todays standards, but the gain is having a convertible and the loss of hundreds of pounds of metal and glass. There IS the ability to change the dated looks of the car if you happen to own one that you are stripping or is already there.
A 6000 mile Carelli is rarer than a CS. My opinion, this car will never get what it is worth....which is in the 6 digit range.

I wonder where the other 7 Carellis are... Saudia Arabia garages, perhaps?
Heck of a jewel for a 928 collection. It really does need either it's original wheels or some period-correct aftermarket, not those hideous bling things.
The dusty condition bugs me. Here's a seller who, according to him, grew up washing cars in the high-end car trade (where un-detailed cars are frowned upon).
"The top has been up only twice on this and I was there both times so I can vouge for its condition and authenticity."
Maybe it's perfectly authentic, but stuck down - so no washing ha ha...
