Default AAA won't tow "that make" car. From Frenzy back to Detroit took 36 hours.

Cruising up hill 85 MPH at mile post 174 on the Ohio Tpke the CSR electric water pump with less than 6000 miles on it decides to die. Instant overheat & lost water.

Let it cool, but still had some water. Made it to the exit and then downhill to the Richfield Family Restauant.
Starting to sleet. Called Jack Riffile. Fellow Rennlister in Twinsburg. Jack comes to rescue me. OK we can get it towed to a repair shop in Mantua, OH.
Called AAA "Sorry we can't help. the only tow company we have in the area won't tow "that make car maybe we can find someone on Monday".
Huh! What you mean you 're AAA, I'm a member, broken down on the side of the road, and you can't/won't send a tow truck??!!
"Yes Mr. Budd that's right we cannot help you tonight. Please call back Monday and we'll try to find a tow company that will tow that model carl. Have a nice evening and thanks for calling".

Longer story short. Paid a local tow company $155 to tow it to the shop. Stayed at Jack's place for the night.
Chris (the local shop owner, Great mechanic & body man, BTW) drives me to Summit Racing in Talmadge, OH, pick up a Meziere pump, stop at Wal Mart for antifreeze, back to the shop for the install. Paid $50.00 for the install and I'm back on the road about 3 PM.

It wasn't a Porsche or Chevy part failure. It was the CSR pump. O well.
I'm back home and not broke, thanks to Jack.

Thanks Jack!!!

Guess the local AAA don't got a flatbed. How sad.
The NJ AAA tow used my left rear drop link as anchor point.
Didn't find out till nearly year later that the drop link was bent.

AAA rated shop. Big deal.

Glad you got home safe and with something left in the wallet, Rob.
Cool you made it to Frenzy. Hope you had fun.

Jack Riffle.

That explains the $50 in labor to change it.

AAA should reimburse at least part of what that tow cost. It's in the T&C, you just have to dig a bit.

AAA scares me sometimes.... they're generally very good about most things, but you gotta watch out. I found out a while ago that they charge extra to tow motorcycles. Is it really that hard?

Probably due to how long it takes to pick up all the pieces scattered along the highway

AAA is great to have and I would recommend them, especially the "Plus" membership where they will tow you more miles free and to where YOU want them to tow you.

BUT, you HAVE to watch the guys loading your car, they just don't know or care about them as much as we do. Don't have any trouble getting a flat bed truck or an "experienced" driver, but when I just recently had my car towed back to Exotic to get the motor installed, the "experienced" driver was ready to ratchet down the D ring on the tow strap on the outside of my brand new 19" Carrera Classic wheels ... I "politely" asked him to reposition the D ring...

Quick Reply: AAA won't tow "that make" car. From Frenzy back to Detroit took 36 hours.
