Question Bubbling of coolant

Hello all,

I have an 85 manual US 32v, I'm getting bubbling of coolant when im done driving the car?! I do not lose any coolant or overheat but I hear it under the dash and I feel it bubbling on the top radiator hose? I've replaced the radiator cap, ran the heater, tried burping the system, but still present?! Has anyone had this condition, wha t do I do?

This is not necessarily a problem. If the car is fully hot and you stop and turn it off abruptly I would expect a bit of boiling.

You may want to check the cooling system and should if the car does this in cool weather or before getting up to temp. Just basic stuff like thermostat, cooling fans, clogged radiator tubes, debris in radiator fins and coolant level.

Thanks, will do. How does the thermostat ply into this?

Thermostat should keep it from getting too hot in the first place. If the pressure cap isn't holding pressure it can cause this as well. Make sure you're using at least 1 gallon of coolant. I wouldn't use more unless you live in a place where you need to keep it from freezing.

If you are losing pressure somewhere that can cause boiling. Normally you can track leaks by looking for a coolant spoor or checking for staem if it is boiling.
Do you see the high temp light? If not then I guess the thermostat is OK.
My coolant was boiling last Thursday and I had steam from behind the airfilter; I will dig down there tomorrow and check the heater valve and short hose.

The coolant on my '85 does this as well from time to time. I bought a pressure tester from sears and it holds pressure reasonably well. I'm not too worried about it. My biggest concern is something catching on fire from all of the oil leaking.

I have an 85 Auto and I have never had any bubbling (boiling) sounds.
