Default Vacuum Actuator Diaphragms - Did I dream it?

Somewhere I thought I had seen a post possibly from Nicole (not certain of this) with a pic of whoever holding two or three new HVAC vac actuator diaphragms. They were a sort of red/brown colour. Probably in the last month or two

Did I dream it ?

I already searched all the threads that search found but no joy.

Planning the HVAC resto on both 928s and trying to think ahead, plus lots of other 928s here in OZ seem to have HVAC related vacuum issues and summer is just around the bend.

TIA

i know what your feeling, sometimes the search wont get you want you want, cause often times you find really good information on a completely different thread. A thread starts with ex: carpet kit install and on the second page there is some really good information on some interior part replacement that you had no idea how to do.

if only the search engine was absolutely perfect.......... best to keep on the topics though i guess

and sorry i dont know which thread that was in but i do remember reading about it, maybe in the thread she started about the "interior 2.0"

There was a thread started by Nicole re. the subject; search on her name. There's someone else on the 'List looking at possibly buying just the diaphrams (original to another car) and believe they were brown but dont recall who posted.

This may safe a few bucks when buying the actuators: I think Roger mentioned that all the 928's diaphrams are the same so you can buy the cheapest one and just replace the diaphram.

Yup, as said above, talk to Rog100.

He has the scoop on these.

Negative: There are two different sizes. The larger ones have a Mercedes part # that is close enough to do the job although don't have a large shoulder and are difficult to install. I overcame this by first fitting the diaphram to ensure that it is well seated and holding down the spring by applying vacuum using a flex tube on a Mityvac.
The info to acquire them was posted here but I have lost the link. The item number was 2010. Perhaps a search for that may turn up the posts.

My invoice for these items is from Autolux, Inc, 3121 W. Coast Hwy, Ste. 6A, Newport Beach, CA (949) 574- 0054 @ $5.30 each. As for the smaller diaphrams, looks like you will have to purchase the entire actuator, although there was some talk about these guys trying fab up some.

Good luck.

Just an update,
GT Jackson is right - well almost - there are possibly three, maybe four different diaphragms when looking at the whole model year range.
I am in the process of investing a lot of $ in the tooling for the other sizes as I am fed up with paying $80 for an actuator when all I need is a 10 to 20$ part.
I may have to charge about $20 to start with to try and recoup my non recurring costs but that is a lot cheaper than $80.
I now have bought the rights the Porsche business from AutoLux so that I will be the contact for all Porsche type diaphrgams in the future.
PM me for details.
Roger

Thanks for the responses - have pm'd Roger re future purchase. I still can't find the picture though - must be in some unrelated thread.

Cheers

There are several differnt sizes used depending on year.

Fortunately, BMW and MBZ were also Behr customers. If you are in a tight economic scenario, you may wish to investigate your local 'pick-n-pull'.

I am always amused/amazed by what I can get for $1 at one of my local junkyards.
