Default Window Motor removal.

Does anyone have a write up on the passenger side window motor removal process? And any tips on trying to repair it? (A search turned up very little)

I did mine on a 87, and there is a write up out there, I cant remember where it is.
It is not a big deal, the hardest part I had was figuring out how the wires came off of the motor, they pull off with a great deal of diffilculty.
I tried to repair mine took it all apart and cleaned every thing, lubed it and put it back in. It worked for about a week and then I had to replace it.

I repaired mine on the drivers side of my 82 euro and it wasn't that bad to do . after getting the motor out, i took it apart and clened it up with carb cleaner to get ot alll the old grease, then hosed it down with electronic cleaner to remove the reidue from the carb cleaner. polished the armeture with fine emery cloth and then took a o'ring pick(ice pick or awle would also work) and cleaned out the groves in the armeture and then spryed off with electronic cleaneer again. Sprayed down the gears and brg caps with white lith- so far so good - have been working fine for a few months now - almost forgot be shure to take armeture all the way out of motor and wire brush worm gear- gets really nasty from old grease and makes it harder for motor to do work.

I have done it a couple times on different cars when your in there you might want to check the plastic roller on the regulator 928 international sells replacements real cheep I had to re use my pins because the ones with the new rollers were smaller than the hole in the regulator arm. I currently have the passenger door panel off my 88 if you want some pics let me know.

You are making sure it isn't the switch first, right? That is the more common failure point.

Yea its not the switch, before it stopped working completely I could hold down the switch and shut the door just right and get it to work again.

Chris, pics would be great.

Try the Nichols site for the write-up. Google Nichols 928.

OR you can do as my PO apparently did: Just rip the panel off and try to glue it back together afterwards...

My passenger side window stopped working a while ago. then it started again, then it stopped ...this went on for a while before finally stopping.
Prior to a motor install I cleaned all the connections and changed the fuse (#15 If I recall correctly), and I installed a new switch and it still didn't work.

I've read that it can often be broken wires where they bend in between the door and the car. Check for continuity by taking out the passenger tray (I had to) unplug the big white connector that supplies wires to the door at the top left above the computer. You can check to see if you get continuity between there and the plug that connects to the window motor.

When I still couldn't find a problem I plugged in the new motor to see if it would work before I attempted installing it. I had to whack the "new" motor with a screwdriver handle a few times, then it started to spin instead of just click.

Putting in the motor isn't as hard as it looks when you get in there, you can reach inside the door(with the panel off) with your left hand and hold it in place to line up the holes. Careful when removing the old one the window will want to fall. I had to adjust the window up and down so that the holes would line up correctly while installing the new one.

Don't forget you check your switch by plugging it in to the other window connector on the left side of the console.

Windows worked this morning. Been a month.

I have pics if you need'em
