Default H3 HID

I just did an HID conversion on my driving lights. I was using 100w H3 bulbs. I have to say, love the look, and these are SOO much brighter! While doing the conversion, I removed the reflector thing exstending from the bulb base!

I did this two, very rewarding in a couple of ways, dunno why this board is so ho-hum about HID upgrades. Oh well.

What year? What HID setup? In what circumstances do you use it? Sounds cool!

they're plug-n-play for our cars:just need to find a place to mount the ballasts as they get extremely hot: I'd suggest the backside of the aluminum bumper (have to remove the grill to get to it).

They come on with your fog lights: rarely have to raise your headlights with them installed.

Mark, speaking only for myself, I'm pretty ho-hum about the HID upgrade for the main bulbs because I already have 8" H4s and I don't want to end up with a crappy or nonexistant high beam. What I have works great, maybe a slightly higher wattage would be all I could want. I'm not real excited about going to HID in my fog lights either, for two reasons -- one, they are aimed low so they are effective as fog lights. two, I went to a fair amount of trouble to get my fog lights to come on when I pull the light/combo switch stalk, because I wanted the passing flash functionality -- HID is no good for that.

I bought mine off ebay. The kit was only $135 with shipping!! This is a good set, the color is from the gas, and not colored glass!
Yes I did mount the ballest to the inside of the front bumper....went for a ride after dark, and as I hoped....I do not need to use my headlights! These are very bright! I used 6000K color.

I'm using the 100 watt H3 setup as well as 80/100 H4's and I find that it is quite a current draw with everything on. How does the HID compare for current draw as I was considering this swap ?

Will post pictures asap! As far as current draw, I have noticed less draw from the HID's!
As far as where to get them.....

If my lights are stock, what would be the best upgrade without the HID's? Just swap for the fancy new bright white GE Silverstars or what?

If that doesn't seem bright enough I may consider the HID setup, but i don't drive the car at night much, so I don't want to spend much on it.

H4's are the best you can get, IMHO without changing the mounting. Especially the 8", but I had 7" H4's and they were still far superior to the 8" H5's. Some will tell you HID conversions are the best, but there are quite a few serious shortcomings with current offerings IMHO.

I won't upgrade mine to HID. Well aimed H4 lights provide an incredible amount of usable light.
