The winters here in Montana have been pretty mild for the past few years. I only remember 2 or 3 big snows all season last year. But, apparently this winter is supposed to be a lot worse, so I'll have to do some preparing.

If I can get mine on the road I'll drive it during the winter, and maybe in the snow, but I doubt it simply because mine doesn't have limited slip and my daily driver does. Over the years I've found that lack of use is worse on a car then driving it in bad weather.

I always drive it through the winter; I use high speed yoko winter tires; good for 120+mph

Can you define snow - what is this strange seasonal problem you speak of - we don't know that word here in my neck of the woods!
But I do have 2 vehicles that I am told can handle it!

Here is a link to some Porsche 928 winter tire reccomendations: http://members.rennlist.com/fabric/p...re%20specs.pdf

Looks like the Winter 240 Snowsports are the way to go.

I sure am! I plan on shoveling the snow off my driveway each morning to wash my car next January. There's nothing like a nice, clean 928!

[Sorry, I live in Fort Lauderdale; just had to rub it in!]

N!

PS: My house has a west exposure, so the driveway is in shadow in the morning. I'll probably get up, pull on a bathing suit, and walk out into the garage January 1st, pull the car out onto my pavers...and wash it up while barefoot. Just wanted all you folks in Wisconsin and other bizarre places like that to know it....

I drove my 82 through the winter last year. The car was scary to drive with all season tires on it , but eventually I got some snows on the car and it drove great. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have since converted the car into a track car. If anyone is interested I have 2, Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50's for sale with less than 3,000 miles on them. Tire size is 225/55/R16. Tire Rack lists them at $113 a piece, but I will let the pair go for $100 plus shipping. Thanks. Joe

Car in avatar drives 365 days a year. A good idea to fight against salty roads is an annual oil spray underneath the car. Tyres remain all year round. No other changes are made and the winters have never been a problem. Like I said in an earlier thread- I have only been stuck in the snow once- in my own driveway. The car handle quite well in the snow with it's nearly perfect weight distribution. Watch the quick steering though. You can get into trouble on the ice trying overcompensating. Heater also works better than any other automobile I have owned. Don't sweat the winter- just enjoy driving your 928 while evryone else afraid of the elements are driving their rust Novas.

FYI I believe Mike is referring to Edmonton, Alberta Canada winters.

I do know of one S4+ that runs all winter. I shake my head every time I see it but he does get around so it can be done.

I'm not sure what the norm is up in Edmonton but down here in Calgary they are pretty fond of rock chips and sand for traction. Not only will the paint take a beating but you can plan for a new windshield in the spring as well. I currently have a crack in the windscreen (not from winter driving) and the only quote I could get after calling 5 glass shops was $ 1800.

I would (and do) invest in a different vehicle for such duty.

Nope...and I won't buy a car that's been driven in salt either.

I wouldn't use the brand recommendation as bible, but this is a nice resource. I just got the Tire Rack winter print catalog, and the 240's do look nice and are priced reasonably.

A Model T or A would be awesome in the snow with those buggy wheels.

I have tires and mags all prepped for the winter.
It's just that the vehicle looks like crap for a few months.

I have driven the car on at least 4 winters so I know what to to expect.

Someone mentioned the heaters performance. YES, it is absolutely phenominally hot and quick compared to any other vehicle I've had.

It's a toss between driving her with the Cup ones on or buying a hunk a crap and driving it for 4 months-Ugggh.
