14 pin connector near jump post
I've searched and can't find the pin outs on the 14 pin connector (front engine harness) in the manuals.
Does anyone know what they are or where they are listed? In particular...which pin is the alternator excitation circuit...
thanks in advance,
Tom

Thanks all....yep..finally...after consulting with our local PacNW 928 electrical expert he pointed me to the right spot on the electrical diagrams... #1 it is...
I tell you...looking at those diagrams...it's like reading a foreign language... funny...I expected to see a 14 pin connector with wires coming out and in etc.but nooooooo..... just a line with only 5 connections..right off the alternator....of course with cryptic color codes too haha...
Well..gonna trace my excitation circuit today..and hopefully cure my charging woes..
Thanks again,
Tom

So...I bribed Thurston (goldknight) to meet me at the shop to help troubleshoot my
non charge situation after doing my partial front engine work...
I had pulled the alternator to get it tested since it wasn't putting
out charge. Brought it to the local Schucks..and it passed with
flying colors. So next culprit was the excitation circuit that sends
voltage to the alt to get it to start "putting out". We check
continuity on that wire..and sure enough ..broken...
Check the blue wire (excitation wire) at the 14 pin plug and it's
pretty corroded..as were other wires too so get those cleaned up..run
a separate wire outside the harness to feed the alt (new excitation
wire) and get the alt back up in there....
Also found a couple of wires in the harness (where it rubbed on the
A/C belt and got exposed) that needed repair so those were taken care of.
Get everything together..connect the battery and cross our
fingers...fire it up..and good to go....14 V at jump point...13.5 on
the gauge..good to go...starts charging right away..
Thanks again Thurston ..I owe ya...and also thanks for clearing up
what the heck honky tonk bedonky donk means ahahahahaah...

Here is the tip I wrote up a few years ago for my 79 Cab...so future searchers of your problem.

Wire Harness Connector Pinout
I had a problem getting my 79 convertible running after almost 2 yrs of sitting disassembled. While we were pulling the motor out, the main engine wire harness separated at its connector near the + bat terminal on the passenger fenderwell. The wires came out of the bottom clip and had gotten shifted around loosing their proper orientation. I spent about one hour digging thru the manuals, tracing wires and
components to determine the correct sequence. Here is the order for future reference (if anyone is as unlucky as I was). One caveat, I'm not sure all years are compatible, but the 78-84 seem to match.
The connector is about 1" X 2" brown plastic, numbered 1-14. Even numbers labeled on one side, odd on the other. The connector mates the engine harness to the vehicles harness and supplies +12v to the various items.
#1 solid blue. goes to the Alternators B+ terminal
#2 blue/blk. Oil pressure sender unit
#3 blue/yellow. coolant temp sender
#4 blue white. oil pressure sender unit
#5 blue/green. coolant temp sender
#6 blue/brn. engine oil switch
#7 2 red/whites'. WUR and Sup air valve
#8 unused
#9 black. AC and AC pressure switch
#10 blk/yellow dot. Starter to resistor
#11 unused
#12 unused
#13 unused
#14 2 yellows. Large yellow-starter to fuse block; small yellow- to cold start valve
