Default Does anyone use Bosch Pltnm 4 or Pltnm IR Fusion plugs?

Has anyone used these on a 16v engine?

I still use what James Dean used, Champion, you can spend anywhere from 2.25 to 9.00 a plug.. here is an educational link

The WRD8 or whatever single-electrode plugs are the best for 2V systems (16V 928's and 8V 944's), and the platinum Plus 4 or other multiple-electrode plugs are best for 4V systems (32V 928's and 16V 944's).

heinrich,

who told you +4's are best for 32v? I would imagine they would be better but i have heard many mixed reviews on these plugs. I am not doubting what you are saying and would tend to agree wih you, but care to share your reasoning on why they are better. The factory plugs are a 3 electrode plug , or at least the ones refered to as copper are 3 electrode.

Real-world I have owned 16V and 8V 944's and the difference was clear. I found that the 4-prong stuff made pitch black soot and lowered torque. Same has happened with my 928's ... the 16V 928's hate the platinum plus-4's and the 32V 928's love them.

Heinrich,

I searched for WDR8 on google and didn't find any spark plugs. Are those Bosch?

yep, WRD8 is a Bosch plug. Platinum +4 quads were stock in GTS, iirc.

Copper is superior when talking about spark plug performance. The downside is copper does not last as long as other materials. The use of milti electrodes & other metals is for longevity, not optimum vehicle performance. If your goal is to change spark plugs every 100,000 miles, then go with a platinum milti electrode plug. Otherwise stick with single electrode copper.

I tend to use what the owners manual calls for on stock engines.
I also read a TSB on the 928 that Porsche did not recommend using anti-seize on the plugs, I think I will still use it.

Hi,
I put a set of the platnum +4's in my old 83s with almost 200k miles on it and it ran so good I didn't even have to think about them till I sold the car at almost 300k. I swear it's true. I fixed many other things on that car but never had to mess with the engine. I tried the same thing in my 79 Euro AT and had to pull them in favor of the copper. Now with hi-test gas, it is just as smoothe as the old one was. I have the platnum +4's on the shelf if anyone needs them

Platnum +4 plugs will work, and who knows how old or due for replacement the old ones were at 200,000 miles. Any new plug is better than a worn out plug. The US 16V motors are such low performance, it probably doesn't make any difference.

I believe the +3's were stock on the GTS's. I don't believe Bosch came out with the +4's until late 90's. I have been told the +3 work best and to stay away from the +4's. So far the +3's show to be perfect for the GTS. I tried the +4's on my high compression SC motor and my Dodge 360 Cu in. They did nothing for the SC and screwed up the Dodge big time.

I have not tried them on either the GTS or the 944S2, although I think I might try them on the S2 next time. I was told by many people they are no good for my turbo.

One big issue with multi point plugs is the gap - kinda hard to run a tighter gap with a 3+ plug, something a lot of turbo owner do when running higher than stock boost.
