Default 928 drivers seat

Anyone have an issue where the drivers side seat will no longer move forward on its track. The problem seems to me that the drive motor on the right hand side of the seat has frozen. Any suggestions on how to unfreeze it would be greatly appreciated.

***Update Seat is now fixed***

Here is how I did it, I purchased a 3/16 9inch slotted screw driver used a dremel to cut off the slotted tip, then ground two sides of the metal shaft down to 4mm square. With my improvised tool cut and ground down, the process to unstick that PITA seat is simple, just insert the tool into the stuck rail drive and turn.

to move seat forward

left rail turn clockwise
right rail turn counter clockwise

to move seat backward
reverse the above.

Look for coins in the track. There is a gear upfront that will accept an Allen. See if it will move by turning that gear but do not force it. Work it a bit back and forth. Best to remove the seat if it is not back so far that you cannot get to the rear rail bolts.

I had the same thing when I first got my shark. When I finally was able to remove the seats, my wife and I found more than $10 in loose change

If the front gear is broken (a lot of them are) there is still a way to move the seat enough to get to the bolts. You need to disconnect the flexible shaft from the correct motor on both sides and turn them by hand. Not easy, but doable.
If your up/down works, raise the seat to it's maximum, it will make the whole process much easier.

Mine jammed in the full rearward position once, and after breaking a tooth off the manual gear trying to free it, I disconnected the drive shafts from the motor and turned them by attaching the ends to a power drill. Worked like a charm, though you want to be mindful to pull each side forward evenly, so as not to get the seat cockeyed and jammed in the tracks.

The seat motor, btw, is under the black cover at the front of the seat. A couple of screws removes the cover, and iirc, the cables are held in by a C-clip. It's pretty easy to figure out once you take a look at it.

As to why it jammed, I have no idea, but it hasn't happened since.

Hi you will find that their are 2 cables that run from the motor , they are for each seat track if one of the cable housings pops out then you will only have one side working, try to see if the cable on the non moving side has slipped out this is usually indicated by the cable housing being able to slide out of its anchor on the motor housing, the housing is hel in place by a spring clip if this part is missing then the housing will sldie out, also if you get it working it would be a good idea to remove the seat and clean out any debris underneath the seat, to do this i would slide the seat all the way back and then undo the front bolts then slide it all the way forward and then undo the rear bolts then tip the seat back and un do the wire harness

some of the seats; like mine, have a metal bar (looks a bit like part of a wire coathanger) underneath - it runs across the car. If you pull this then it disconnects the gear and you can manually move the seat.

I had the same problem with my passenger seat. I checked the motor and it worked fine but not with the switch connected to it. It turned out that the forw/aft switch contact have slowly developed a fine layer of carbon. Must have been from years of arching and this created too much resistance for the motor to work. All I had to do was carefully take the switch apart and clean up the contacts with steel wool. It’s been working flawlessly ever since.

Exactly, check these first.

My passenger seat has stopped working a couple of times; stuck all the way back. The manual release "released" the seat and with my 8-year old's help by pushing on the seat, it moved with the switch. I have noticed that I/or the passenger sometimes have to "blip" the switch or it will continue going all the way back; only to get stuck again.

Good luck.

That manual gear in the front of the seat has a missing tooth when new. I thought I broke a tooth off as well, but after ordering replacements, they came with a tooth missing. I figured out why it's like that, but now I forgot the reason.

Before trying to adjust it manually (which can break things in some cases), I'd try toggling the seat switch.

My seat will often get "stuck" in the full back position, but if I give more than a few attempts with the switch, it usually frees itself up.

I just push "forward", then "back" and repeat until the seat moves.
