It's been a long road getting this car back together and making it run right. I've been driving the Koenig car for the past few days with the Sharktuner hooked up trying to find the correct A/F ratio, and all I can say is WOW!
Big kudos to John Speake in creating this incredible tunning tool for our cars!!
To watch this thing work to find a stoic ratio as you drive is simply amazing.
I'm using the Ford motorsport 42lbs injectors, running on stock fuel pressure. Started the motor up briefly on the 42's with the stock chip just to see what it would do - as expected, it would barely idle being way too rich. After restarting with the ST hooked up and proper base fuel map loaded, the engine fired right up. A few adjustments made with the "Autotune" function and she purred like a kitten! Amazing.
I decided to ditch the 9th fuel injector stuck in the intake on the Albrex setup to better control fueling under boost. (which was the original, old setup). I'm sure it worked ok, but there's no way to verify that each cylinder was getting proper fuel when you start thinking about intake flow properties, etc. Plus, there's a much better way of doing it now.
Here's some pictures of the ST setup, basically its an interface between the LH and EZK box to run with a laptop. You remove the stock chip from the LH and plug in the adapter that runs to the ST box. The ST box is powered from the car's diagnostic port, and the A/F ratio comes from a WBO2 sensor. You plug your laptop into the ST box, and you're all set to tune...
Among other things I keep finding on this car, I discovered there was NO diagnostic port at all. (WTF) Took me a day to figure it out. Apparently I've got a '89 or later harness on the engine, running into an '88 LH, and 89/90 GT EZK ecu's. But the rest of the car is still all 84 wiring. According to the WSM wiring diagrams, the diagnostic port on 89 and later cars was located on a different wire loom (which I didn't have, only had the engine harness portion). So I had to create my own diagnostic plug, and splice it into the engine harness - just to run the ST.

This is the fuel map screen that you modify to set your A/F ratio. Each "cell" or bin has its own value (-127 to +127) that corresponds to a base fuel map, corrected for injector size. To make it short, it's easiest to use the Autotune function to get the ratio really close to stoic. Then, go in and manually edit cells as needed.
Basically, you do a gentle drive as you Autotune, letting the blue crosshairs move through the map and automatically correct each cell. Green is good, Red is lean, and Yellow is rich.
I'm far from completing tuning yet, but this is from a few drive sessions as I'm still learning.

Nice work Bill !
The car looks fantastic :-)
The fun starts when you go to remapping the WOT part of that map.........
I will be very intersted to see how much timing you have to pull out at the top end when you get to the EZK SharkTuning.

We found it was somewhat slow process to tune all cells in 2400 to 4000 rpm range simply because SC makes car so quick that active cell just jumps over this area on full throttle. With enough tries its possible to get almost all cells to green. Most difficult ones on both up and down extremes of the sheet require steep hill or other ways to cause less and more load than level road. Obviously some cells are not needed ever but its fun to try to get all done.

If only it was so easy. Car in question is automatic. ![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
5sp is much easier but automatic is doable also as long as road is looooooong. One day in German autobahn close to Alps and maps are perfect all the way to upper right corner.

Bottom right corner is much more interesting :-)
On an auto, how about disconnecting the kick down switch ?

You can disconnect the TV cable at the throttle bellcrank on the S4 and later cars. It's the upper-outer cable on the "pulled" section. The throttle cable to the engine is the pother cable on that. Removing the cable will make the car stay in a high gear, so do this only when you are raedy to test, not for the drive to the test area.
John--
Is there much room for improvement in the stock S4 map? I have a set of Autothority chips in the parts bin that helpsed some but made it hard to pass NOx test during biannual inspection. Does SoCal need a SharkTuner service? I need a few other 'excuses'...

Hi Bob,
No off the shelf, "one size fits all" chip is going to work as well as a bespoke chip, mapped for your particualr car. There are too many variables with these old cars.
With a ST chip the fuelling WILL be correct.
I am sure there would be people in SoCal wanting SharkTuned cars :-)

Spoken like a true English gentleman.
