Default Porsche OE 18" "Turbo Twist" Wheels - $650!!!

I saw this on Craigslist... I would buy them in a nanosecond, except that I don't start my new job until Monday, and until then, I'm 'low flow' as they say...

Wanted to pass them along to some other lucky Rennlister...

Why only 17's? I thought both 17's & 18's could be used on 928's without rubbing?

They can. I have 18's on mine. There is some ride differences depending on sidewall aspect ratio. Some just like 17's better.

I dunno about that Larry...

Run a search on www.discounttire.com for, let's say, stock size rears; okay, they're listing BFG G-Force T/A KDWs for $154 as their lowest price entry.

Okay, so let's up the diameter to 17"s, same width, 40 a/r: they list Kumho Ecsta ASXs for $114, and there are six other selections before you match the 16" entry price at $154.

Now, let's look at 18"s, same width, 35 a/r: the same model BFGs as the 16" example come back, with an 18" price of $205.

I know that's kinda cheating, since I'm not comparing the same models, but let's face it, fewer of us are more brand loyal than we are price sensitive when it comes to rubber! You can SAVE $40/per tire by UPGRADING the wheel size to 17"s from 16"s!

If you wanted to move up to 17"s and put more rubber down, you can even move into Dunlop Direzza DZ101 255 40 17s for $105, fully $50 less per tire than the stock 16" rear wheel size!

Doing the same, i.e. going from a 245 to a 255 in an 18" costs $180, $75 more than the 245 18!

These are all Z rated tires, so should work just fine for us.

Does anybody know, if these fit a 1991 928 without any tire rubbing?

Gaugeman,
For 16" rears? Discount Tire wasn't listing those, but $98 is very good! It's irresistible if it is $98CA! I'll be making the border run soon if that's the case! I could use some East Erie St. Italian food anyway...

That was USD. What size were you checking anyway. All sizes I checked the same model was always cheaper in 16.

Andrew might be coming over to do his clutch on my hoist next weekend (14th) That would be good for informal tech and some good italian food. I will wait for Andrew to post if he wants to do it or not. (sorry for the partial hijack)
