Went to lunch today and this light came on in my Euro. Im guessing its a bad battery or alternator? My battery guage has been below 12... probably 11.7 since SITM this year?
My search results only brought up aftermarket guages.
What would this be?
TIA.

Hmmmm! Well, on my guages it just says Kuhl-W, then has a little sign next to it that looks like a battery? (very small) I was looking at the other dial guages and my temp reading was in the middle (safe I assume). I was driving in bumper to bumper though.
Is there a light that says KUHLWASSER on the US pre-87 MY's? Once it has cooled off enough, I will go check the coolant level.

I don't have my Euro here in town right now. I was looking at the Rennlist archives and found a pic showing KUHLWASSER. Wasser means water and kuhl means cool. I do not think it is a battery problem if the warning starts with kuhl...

There is a sensor that triggers low coolant. The car will not run hot if it is just below this line.
I know there are some '84 Euro guys that can help here and Nicole can for sure translate whatever you need.

Sure enough! Thanks for the hints byrdman454! The level is about .5" below what I think is the level line.
On a side note, is there any issue of adding water-whetter to whatever coolant is in the radiator currently just to top it off?

John,
Look for a coolant puddle under your oil pan. Coolant doesn't typically just dissappear. My puddle would develop after the engine cooled off (engine off).

This is true. Have you changed coolant or something lately? If so, could be an air bubble finally escaped, if not, then you may have a small leak. I would probably check for a sign of leakage at the plastic end caps. If you have a small leak, very small, it will not show up as a puddle, but there will be signs....

I have used water-wetter during my roadracing days and it works as advertised even with alunimum rads. I have even cured muscle cars running hot with the stuff. The problem is that I changed my water alot more frequent than you will in the 928. Not sure if there are any long terms effects of using it. Unless your car is overheating or running hot alot, I would probably not mess with it. If it isn't broke, don't fix it...
