As Brian said, I get about 4.5-5.5 mph at a 160 mph average at an Open Road Race. This
is at 4,500-6,000 feet, so there's lot of elevation changes as well as a speed range of 115-190
mph because of the combination of turns and straights. And I do go through a quart of oil
in a 100 miles (more last year, but Bill and I replaced the breather hose with the hole in
it....). When I ran the 145 class I would get over 10 mpg, of course I was running NA then.

I wonder what mileage the "Beast" gets in ORR? I remember Marc T saying the white car got almost 9mpg at 200mph? Seems a bit on the high side?

Gas mileage on the Beast in the 155 class with cruising about 165 mph I got 11 mpg at the Pony Express. We did have to push through the canyon though. Like George says, it is at 4500 - 6000 feet with lots of ups and downs. Zero oil consumption!!

I can do approximately 250 miles per tank at hiway speeds (75-80) in my 82.

On the return trip from a Euro xxxx meet - 158 miles in 1 hour - including a short burst above 170mph - fuel used 16 gallons - so 10mpg (Thats imperial gallons)

In contrast a 200 mile trip all at 80 mph (cruise control on virtually whole trip) 28mpg

My 85S 32V gets between 21 and 22mpg on cruise control at 60-65mph. My 968 gets 27.5mpg at same speeds. Because of that I'm thinking the O2 sensors must be OK.

That I find most interesting! Does the DEVEK engine have a totally redesigned breather system? Sounds like a genious was at work there...

I have put over 3,000 miles on the car this year including 4 ORR's, 4 ORR practice days and driving it for 3 days at Sharks at the Lake and a little around town. I check the dipstick before every drive and empty the catch tank after every high speed run. I have only gotten a half dozen teaspoons of oil out of the catch tank TOTAL. In fact most of what comes out of the catch tank is condensation not actual oil.

The car also has a 3L Accusump and modifications to the oil breather system. Perhaps this helps explain the lack of consumption. There are a lot more things redesigned on the engine but I have been sworn to silence on most of them. You know Marc. There is still a lot I'm learning about what has been done internally and every time I talk to him (or attend the dyno sessions) I find out more. One of these days I'll have a complete list, just in time to start changing stuff around.

Stay tuned for the next set of Winter Mod's. Did someone say HP? We'll see.

I find this very impressive - in my experience 928s ALWAYS use oil - some more, some less. My current one takes about 1/2 quart every three tanks of gas. The previous GT took almost twice that. And from the German message board I learn that the GTS can take a quart easily during a one-tank run on the Autobahn.

Around here, HP could mean Hacker Pschorr (beer), or Horse Power. Wonder which one you'll be going for over the winter time while you're snowed in at Tahoe...

11mpg in an ORR in the "beast" is quite good.....very good I think!!

At the Thunderhill track event last Thursday....I got 9.4mpg driving 94 miles...from the gas station....to the track (about 6 miles each way) and back to the gas station.....plus this is in a stock 88S4 auto.....I wonder what the beast would get in the same situation.....I like to think a stock S4 would do better.....but maybe not? (BTW the track does sell 100 octane :>)

on the race track, i burn through 7 gallons in 40 miles. ive had the fuel light come on after 80% of the races. Its about 5.5 mpg.

In the GTS I did use about a quart in the weekend of running ORR's. In every day driving I use about a quart every 1500 miles but it does vary greatly depending on how hard I drive it.

I would think that track useage would always be more fuel consumption than ORR, remember that at 162 mph I am only turning 4800 rpms and the few times I've been on the track I'm always reving the engine to 6200 - 6400 rpm shift points. I'll let the track experts give the final answer on that.
