Default Shift boot base? Are these available?

I am looking for a shift boot base. The plastic mounting that snaps onto the center console. I want to avoid buying the entire boot and **** for the $160 or so that they cost and get just the plastic base as the one of the tabs on mine is missing and it wont securely snap into place. Are they available from Porsche, if not does anyone have an aftermarket source for them?

Any ideas?

You can buy the plastic base separately. I just replaced mine this year. I got mine from 928 Specialists. I don't have the part # handly, but it's a standard Porsche part so any of suppliers should be able to get it for you.

Send me a pm. I 'll sell it to you super cheap-way less than the vendor price.

That looks like the part from a A/T. Since Ryan has a GT, I'm assuming he needs the boot base from for a manual shifter.

Bill,

I will try the part number on the bottom of mine, But I had just assumed it was the part number for the entire shift ****. I dont remember seeming it seperated in the PET. Good to know its available seperately.

Thanks!

My leather shift boot is very loose at the bottom and kind of flops around. Will this part fix that problem?

Good morning, Jim!

Ryan - sounds like Jim has one in your (relative) neighborhood.

When I replaced my frame I got a new boot at the same time. After 19 years it had shrunk somewhat and even with the new frame I was afraid it was going to be pulled loose again. That was a bit of work but it came out pretty well. In retrospect it would have been easier to just replace the frame and wait to see if I actually needed a new boot as well.

Correct if the leather has shrunk too much as you shift it pulls the frame up out of the console and eventually breaks the tabs. A Short shift lever or cutting down the shift lever a bit will correct this or a new replacement boot for about $50

Wow this is an awesome site. I have been struggling with this exact same problem. My mechanic told me it was uber expensive to replace the boot and that I should look on ebay. Never thought about replacing the base
