Default Squeak near front wheel- 85 5spd

I know this is going to be impossible to troubleshoot without seeing the car unless you've experienced this. But I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and found the solution:

I'm getting a loud squeak from the right front of the car and I can't seem to locate exactly where it's coming from. It seems like it might be around the front of the sway bar, but I can't seem to isolate it from under the car.

It happens when I turn the wheel, when I lean on the fender (or bounce it) and when I'm just going down the road straight and level and go over any kind of minor bump.

I've tested the shocks by bouncing each corner once and it comes back up immediately without any second bounces, so I think the shocks and suspension are good. Also, the car did sit for a long time before I got it, so that may be a factor, and had a PS leak that I've fixed (tightening the hose clamps on the PS lines would have been nice ).

Any suggestions on how to remedy would be greatly appreciated (It sounds like a horse-and-buggy when I drive it around town and it's killing my p-car buzz).

Happy 9/28.

Sway Bar bracket - needs lube.

Thanks Roger,

I didn't get my WSM yet, is there a fitting I just couldn't find or should I just wait for the manual and look it up.

Could also be a dried out upper a-arm bushing...

Mark,

Sorry I've never done anything with suspension before. Is that something that can be lubed or is it a 'remove and replace' type bushing. (I'm guessing on a 22 yr old car that anything that starts with 'dried out' should be replace, obviously in pairs).

BTW- love the banner on your avatar, it would be a little over the top for me to use in a permanant application though. Is it removable?

I don't believe there are any grease fittings. Besides the suggestions already made, there are two rubber sleeves on the sway bar attachment brackets, but those are more centered. The drop links, have a bushing on the upper and lower attachments (2 each side, 4 total). You could just start slathering teflon grease around. If you have something else to make the order worthwhile, I would call Jim at 928 Spec and ask for a recommendation, or you could PM him here and pick up something locally. You may find you enjoy looking at the car from underneath almost as much as at the shiny parts.

Thanks Steve,

I'm sure I'll have fewer questions about these small things once my WSM is in and I can go there first, but from what I've seen on this forum, it's been really helpful for things like this.

I've already spent more time looking at the car from underneath than I have looking at the shiny parts, and I do enjoy it. I have no problem with most of the mechanics of the car, I've just never had one that squeaked like that without showing any obvious signs of wear (tie rod ends look beat when they're beat, as do most things), so I was just hoping for someone to say, 'Hey, that happened to mine and I ...'.

Thanks for the insight from everyone.

Just wanted to close this one up for posterity in case anyone searches it in the future:

The squeak was traced to the lower ball joint on the right side. The boot was torn and the ball was dried out. I've since replaced the tie rods and lower ball joints, no more squeak.

I have a squeek coming from the driver's side rear (not me) and I've isolated it to either the shock or the sway bar bushings. I tried spraying silicone lube and WD40 on all the various suspect places, to no avail. Once I unhook the sway bar, I'll know.
