“Objects in Mirror are further then they appear”
That’s right, I said further. I’m accustomed to them being closer then they appear, but not further.
Many times after I see I’ve passed another car in my rearview and right as I’m changing lanes, I get startled when glimpsing over to the right side mirror. It looks like I’m coming over too soon. Even after two years of knowing this… it still catches me off guard at times.
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me being used to driving with convex mirrors on the passenger side. Do these cars normally have convex mirrors on the passenger side? Was this a PO replacement with the wrong glass or something I should just get over?
I see both types are available on line and presume the change out couldn’t be that difficult.
Anyone else every experienced this?

My passenger RH mirror warns objects are closer. Could be because they're aero mirrors from Dave Lomas @ Motosports?
Not really a prob. as anything I'm passing is long gone behind.

Personally, I don't like the convex mirrors and would swap in the flat ones if my car didn't come with them. I check over my shoulder when changing lanes anyway. The way I drive, I need to be able to see clearly as far behind as possible. Sometimes I can only check six with the passenger side mirror, and I wouldn't want a distorted view.
What it boils down to is it's a personal preference. If you don't like the mirror that's in there, it's easy to change.

Radio, 669,600,000 MPH...
Having undistorted mirrors is purely a matter of preference. I want to be able to accurately judge speed of other cars, distance, etc. but IMHO there is no "right" choice for everyone.

I'll trade the convex glass on my 90 for your flat glass. Another reason I almost prefer driving the 86.5...
Convex is tough on the track.
I gather they must've changed between 87 and 90 sometime.

You probably could. Maryland's (POS) Dauphines only go 120s and Virginia's fastest helo (222?) barely goes faster than their Impalas (low-140s). I don't know what Cali has, but you guys do have constant helo cover. Out here we don't have to worry about helos constantly being in the air except around DC and then they'd only care if you're heading towards the district, Pentagon, Langley or NRO.

I'd rather not try, honestly... Back to the mirrors, fact is I feel blind, shortsighted with the "closer than they appear" type mirrors. If I pick up a shark that has them in the future, I'll change them to flat glass.

My Euro had flat glass on the passenger side mirror. Makes your field of view very narrow when looking through it. You better have it pointed exactly where you want it or the mirror is useless. I prefer the "closer than they appear" type mirrors. Just my opinion.....

Except for extreme convex mirrors, it doesn't matter to me either way. I always turn my head to check anyway. The extreme convex mirrors annoy me. You can't see anything.
BTW I have, of course, never proceded at a high rate of speed expecting a cop (who may or may not have wanted to stop me) to not catch up. Nope never happened.

I wait until I can see both headlights of the passed car in the center rear view mirror before I pull in. I always turn my head to check, too. Some punk (like me) may have snuck around from the slow lane.
I never use the passenger side mirror - I've removed it now, anyway - it's a drag, literally.
