Default Max Streetable HP

Mark,

What is the max streetable HP. I am buggin' Carl for a stage 3 SC build in the 5.9L range with extreme high RPM's (8000+ desired). Is this just me being goofy again? Also the 993 rotors/pads and S4 adaptors ROCK! Seatbelts are required on hard stops, as not to meet the windshield. Also, is there a ring gear set between the 2.73 and 2.20 for the G28/13 ?

Cheers,

Cheers,
Glad you are happy with the brakes but as for max streetable HP that can be debated forever. I'm sure there are lots of possible combinations but I like to stick with what's proven like 6.5 liter 4 valve. Lots of data to back it up. For the G28/13 you can get a 2.64 from a 1989 5sp non GT.

When the blow-off valve opens then you're dumping hot compressed air AND fuel.
It's a fantastic idea. It helps cool the supercharger (and charge air), lube the supercharger, and atomize the mixture pretty well. Downside is that it is much harder to tune than port injection.

BOV would recirculate on this setup.

On that note, E-bay ad is somewhat frightening. Anyone contact the seller for the details on the motor, be it parts from boxes or an actual numbers mill?

Right...."It's a fantastic idea" and it turns the compressor into a potential BOMB air and fuel mixture just waiting for ignition ... SOP on the old 471-671 etc running a couple carbs on top and the reason they must be wrapped in a flack jacket for NHRA drag racing

The setup here is not a 671 blower with 2 big carbs, no burst panel, 25 or 30 PSI, and running on methanol; it's a small Eaton with a couple 90# injectors, simple manafold, and by the ad, 7 psi with a plenum cap. Big difference.

Toss on a BOV and you can reglate the pressures if you get a pop. (ala 911 toilet lids for the airbox) Still, you shouldn't have to worry much about backfires on this setup. Again, port injection would be best.

If the fuel is managed right, by a simple Megasquirt system or other EMS, it could run well for a track car.

I'm in no way associated with this seller, just happened to stop over and see these posts.

That is my engine and supercharger listed for sale on E-Bay. I bought the engine from a member of 928 Message board years ago when Phil was the host, it was a running engine. Numbers for the block = M28/42 81H07126,

Technical data from 928 Work shop manual, Page 0.31

Bore 3.94ins
Stroke 3.11ins
Displacement 302.5
Compression 10.0:1
HP 320 (without the blower)
Max torque316.9 at 3000Rpms
Engine weight 264KG

“The SC is set for 7.5lbs of boost. With a 15 lb pop-off valve (safety from intake backfires) and Four 90lb injectors running on top of SC. 420 hp with power tuning and an intercooler”
The publish HP of the motor is 320hp, with an intercooler (Water to air) and power tuning, cam timing, air fuel mixture adjustment and ignition timing should easily add 100 plus horses.
“The super charger is set up for a stand alone Engine Management system. With some fabrication the SC can work with your cars exciting electronic control unit.” True statement.
That super Charger Set up i bought off of E bay

“If you want real HP the Porsche 928/32V engine is one of the best engines ever made. Kelly moss motorsports built a 928 S4 engine using individual throttle bodies which dyno at 825Hp, to view this engine Go to their web site, click on NEWS then select KMR-928-V8'S.”
I was pointing out the HP potential of the 928 S4 32valve engine and reference the Kelly Moss 928 S4 32 valve motor, as it is the highest HP 928 engine Dynode, to my knowledge, The 825 Hp is not correct, I had memory lapse when I wrote that, the true number is 712 HP as of today, I called them to confirm.

“The engine is complete except for (missing) all accessories, distributors, wires, gaskets, one cam chain adjuster, timing belt, Belt Tensioner arm. What you see is what you get.
No bearing failure in the engine; piston, crank and rods are in good condition, no thrust bearing failure.”
The pictured engine has the crank, pistons and rods installed; I removed one piston and oil pan to check the rod journal.

There is no misrepresentation of facts or deception.

Every one that I have had any interaction with, personally or business wise on this forum and on the Mercedes Benz forum knows my character and honesty.

So what’s the Beef! If you have any questions PM me or just ask.

Default EEK! This was a question only

Steve,

I asked and started the thread because the number just seems really big for the HP generated. I have a goofy idea of having an engine built to some insane amount of HP in the next year or two. I am glad you are here to speak up about the engine, and maybe you will be kind enough to teach idiots like myself something new. Clearly you have a pool of knowledge about BIG HP, so if school is in session I am ready to take notes.

Cheers,

I will chime in here,

the pic in the ebay ad is one on an old site 928s4vr, which i recall seeing years ago. Is that the actual engine your selling, or just an engine that looks like yours, i think that is a source of some confusion here on the board.

That being said $3,000 or there abouts for a s4 engine plus a blower setup, even as old and out of date as the one pictured is not out of line, i think its a good deal honestly, even if its just a core its reasonable, i think some of us on the board questioned the integrity of the ad because of the dated picture. I swear, but i could be wrong, but i swear i saw that picture like 8 years ago when i first discovered that 928s4vr website years ago.

I should have been more specific.
When I click on this link I only get an error message from ebay. Other ebay links in this forum work OK for me.
