84S 5speed shifter adjustment
I have a 84S maunal that I am replacing the "shortened" shifter with a 84 euro stock shifter. I installed thge shifter but now 1,3,5 gear will not engage. How do I set up the linkage? Is there a measurement or a procedure to make certain install is correct?

I don't think you can get the install wrong. What is possibly wrong is the front shifter rod needs adjusting to move the neutral position of the shifter further forwards - lengthen the front shifter rod - search for front shifter rod or fron shifter rod ball cup.
More likely is the nylon insert in the front shift rod ball cup has disintegrated allowing too much slop in the linkage. The insert can be replaced with insert for the Later model clutch release arm insert.

I re-installed my shortened 84S shifter and there is no problems. Is it possible the euro shifter is either wrong year or a difference in being from a euro?

OK
The diference between the shifters must be that the original shortened 84S shifter has the pivot holes at the base further apart than the Euro shifter. This means that the angle that the shifter moves through to select 1,3or5 from the Neutral position is smaller than the angle that the euro shofter would move through. The Euro shifter is hitting the back edge of the "hole" that the shifter sits in before it gets far enough back to select 1,3or5.
With the original shofter installed slide your finger down the rear of the shifter and check the clearance to the back edge of the "hole" when in 3rd, Do the same with the front edge when in 2nd or 4th. I'll bet the front clearance is much greater.
If you install the euro shifter and adjust the length of the forwards shifter rod to equalise the clearances you will find that even if the two shifters are the same length the original will require less movement to select the gears.
It woud also be worth checking the clamp bolt at the rear universal joint of the shifter linkage and also the bushes in the UJ itself, both of these could worn enough to create more play in the linkage than is desirable

Euro or US does not matter for shifters. I'd guess the hole spacing is different. Are you sure the replacement shifter isn't from a newer car? Hole spacing changed in either 85 or 87 IIRC.

Spacing changed same time as gearbox syncros did, in '85 MY. To find out what parts you actually have, measure distance between lever holes.
