I think will fit cars up to 1985."

This is the answer I got from the seller.

After looking up the part number in PET5, my best guess is I am clueless cause I can not find the partnumber at all. I get error 2 in PET5

Anyone else who can help?
Anyone has this LSD in their car or if someone can tell if it will fit my 1989?

The LSD on ebay is an early model. I am not sure where the break point is, but it will not fit an 85 or later. Jim at 928 International claims the early units can be modified with a machined ring to fit the later cars.

Looking at eBay there is quite a difference in price between the early and late units. I bought an early unit some time back for $212. The late units are in demand and generally seem to see in the $700 to $1K range.

The question I have is in the main pinion shaft from the early 5 speeds to the later ones. Is there a difference? I have never had an early box apart to compare.

There are at least three different styles of pinion shafts AFAIK. '78-84 has locking nut at rear end next to pinion bearing. On '85-95 nut is moved to the front. '92-95 pinion shaft front end is thicker than other versions. I think also input shafts inside diameter is changed at same time.

It might be possible to use '78-84 pinion shaft in later box if also '78-84 reverse gear is used. I wouldn't count on it though without checking very carefully.

In '87 gears were made 2-3mm wider. Not sure what this means in regards to pinion shaft lenght for example but suspect that it did stay same as box casing wasn't lenghtened.
