Default 928 resto, this weeks update.

No, I'm not talking about the nice red one that was also called a restoration. This is my maaco blue 928 that I posted pices of last week. Anyway, I just about finished cleaning up and re-repairing the passenger side quarter panel. There are still a few things I have to touch up, but overall, it's good enough that I was able to put on some DuPont 2540S Epoxy Primer-Sealer this evening. HVLP guns are the way to go. There is almost no waste or overspray. Since most of the interior is out, and what is out yet will be out soon, I can paint with minimal masking. and anythin that gets inside is no big deal. But the best thing is just how far a little bit of primer/paint will go in an HVLP gun. I was able to prime the passenger quarter panel, the entire jamb for the hatch and about half of the driver's side quarter. Most of what I put on the driver's side will be coming off but I was using that side to set up the gun and also figured I might as well get some practice rather then waste the excess. Since it's epoxy, once the catalyst is added, the clock starts ticking and you can't just put it back in the can.

The driver's side quarter panel has definitely got to be a replacement. You can see where the hole from the antenna was welded closed and it has the same welded in panel holding the side marker light. It looks bad enough on the driver's side I may have to cut out the little panel and make up a new one. If I could find some decent quarter panels at a decent price, I'd cut both sides completely out and start over again. This fill and sand stuff is getting real old.

JHowell,

Nice progress. Keep up the posts. I'm trying to drive mine a little while I'm working on it, it'll be slower but I gotta share the garage with the wife's car (her convertible Mustang sleeps in there).

I saw a parts car this weekend parked on the side of the road in South NJ. I don't know what year, but if you're going to be cutting it up anway, it might be worth a look. I'll see if I can get by there this weekend and get more info (year, price, condition...).

I wish I had room to store a parts car but I don't. If you've got room for it, maybe we can work out a deal where we pro rate the cost and I can take what I need and then you can have the rest (I don't need any body panels, just some door panels if they're good and possibly some things from under the hood if they're compatible)..

Mike
