Default sensor on flywheel, ticking noise?

I have noticed an intermittant ticking sound when the transmission is in drive, 3,2 or R, but not when in P or N. I have had a search through rennlist and see that there is a sensor for TDC, mine has been removed but a thread I read suggests there are some pins on the flywheel that relate to this and one poster said he had a similar issue and he was able to remove or reposition the pin to fix this because it was fouling on something.

Does anyone have any experience with this and a photo of the flywheel, better still, some idea of how to check and fix it?

thanks

I might have a similar issue. Once in a while my 87 S4 Auto seems to make a tapping or clicking noise. Loud enough that I don't want to drive it. Used a stethoscope and it seemed to be coming from the bellhousing area. First time I pulled the lower bellhousing cover and couldn't find any problems. Next time I started up the car it didn't make the noise and was find until last week. Noise was back. Pulled cover again, looked around, noise still seems to be in the bellhousing area. Flex plate looks good, no flex at all using a straight edge. I see the liitle pins on flywheel and they are very close to the bellhousing but don't seem to hit. They will bend your stethoscope probe if you get too close with the engine running. In the end I couldn't find the source of the noise again. I did previous post some pics. I'll find the thread and update this post.

You can search the posts for it. Didn't have pic's, but I'lll look at home for them and post if I can find them.
