Default FYI - Symptoms of loose Rear Ground

In order to fix (for the third time) a transaxle leak (reman?? from 928 International) having my mechanic for the third time pull the transaxle ($3,000 labor), he finally fixed the leaks... however, after I picked up the car I noticed the following:

1) The fuel guage registered 1/3rd of a tank, yet I thought I delivered the car near full...

2) When I stepped on the brake pedal the guage needles would all flicker as well as lights.

3) When I stepped on the brake pedal the fuel needle would move slightly down.

4) When I stepped on the brake pedal the lamp "out" warning lights would appear.

The mechanic just left for a wedding, so I drove the car back home. I called him on his cell and he said there was a plastic cover where the spare tire is (was) and if I remove that, I might see a loose connection...

Well the connection was that the nut at the ground was almost completely backed off... tightened it and problems vanished!

how many hours are they charging you to R&R the transaxle?
$3,000 is way high, if that was for all three times then that would be about right.
My book calls for 13.5 on a 78, 14.6 on a 87 and 14.6 on a 95.

It was about $1,000 labor each time.

That is about right then, still sucks that you had to do it that many times.

Where exactly was the oil coming from? What did you pay for the transaxle? Was it manual or Auto?

BTW. Are you talking about the tool cover? I can't think of why he would have removed that ground strap to get at the transaxle?

prolly because one is supposed to disconnect the battery before doing work on a car.

BTW when i turn on the indicator my amp gauge moves slightly up and down.
is that normal?
and my fuel gauge also shows only half when the tank is full in real.
maybe i got a bad connection at that terminal, too. or could it be something else?
